Assumes the justice system isn’t part of the criminal enterprise?

Ideologues are (I think) an exception. They have less self-interest than a normal person. They are all about the revolution and they will make choices based on what is best for the revolution. And what is best for the revolution is to simply hunker down and refuse to admit that anything illegal ever happened.

In short: I do not expect any betrayals.

This could be the best post of the day. Fun for everyone.
Think that they will tie this to Hillary and Podesta. My suspicion is that Podesta and other Hillary confidants had access to the ‘unmasked’ materials. This will be direct evidence that it was a political operation. Obama skates but a few others including Rice do the perp walk.

Person A, who is under investigation but not yet arrested, or is arrested but out on bond, decides to co-operate in order to receive less punishment. Person B, also under investigation, finds out through one or more of many possible intel methods that A is co-operating. Person A is found with his throat crushed while lifting weights, or commits suicide with two bullets to the back of the head in a local park, or is attacked by an exercise band. Person B no longer has any compulsion to co-operate, and skates.

That is how the Prisoner’s Dilemma has been working for at least the last generation, when it comes to Democrats.

My prediction:

1. Susan Rice will plead the 5th, like Louis Lerner.

2. Cries of racism and sexism against this poor oppressed black woman will reach fever pitch.

3. Establishment Republicans will do the same with Susan Rice as they did with Louis Lerner.

A different result is likely in the real world because political loyalties can be as solid and enduring as those of the Mafia, and prosecutions of political figures tend to be as feeble as those of the Brooklyn DA’s office in 1940s Brooklyn against the Gambino family.

Obama will find some means to talk or goad North Korea to take a step too far in the hopes of maneuvering Trump into attacking.

Why do so few members of organized crime flip on one another when arrested by the police..?

it’s because they all know that the boss has them on video tape doing a truly horrible deed that would send them away forever.

and so it also is with the top US leadership these days.

If you smell the faint bouquet of pizza wafting near, you’ll know they’ll stay quiet:

High hopes, low expectations.

The dems learned what happens when someone defects during Watergate. During the Clinton and Obama eras they stuck together like glue. They will continue this winning strategy.

Not sure if in real world cases the crooks who succesfully cooperate will get any jail time at all. But as stated it is not a logic problem but a problem in loyalty among crooks. Obviously in the stated case the individual crook considering only his own intersest will betray as soon as possible.

First, the criminals have to believe they’ll actually be prosecuted.

Until someone gets nailed to the wall - not just embarrassed, because that have no shame - that perception will persist.

Everybody knows the doubts about his birth certificate or the rumors about him getting youthful homosexual BJ’s in Honolulu but there’s something much more important about Barack Obama:

of all the elections he went through, each one of his career advances was owing to receipt of very timely and damaging private information about his opposition.

each and every time.

who thinks the tiger will change his stripes now..?

Prisoner’s Dilemma ignores the Clinton Gambit. If you don’t defect, but your opponent dies, you win. I will not be surprised if several key players run into sudden health issues.

Rice did nothing illegal, unless you can prove that she leaked it. I am pretty sure that is not going to happen.

She unmasked them certainly. But as the NSA, that is well withing her role. She could authorize others to view it. She could not control what anyone did with the information once it was unmasked.

No one goes to jail. No one is even taken to trial.

Unfortunately, like everything else in the Obama whitehouse—you know they did something wrong. You cannot prove it. And by complaining, you are showing how weak the Republicans are.

They neither have to defend themselves nor do they have to cooperate.

WE end up losing.

No. The prisoner’s dilemma makes numerous unrealistic assumptions about the situation. For example, it assumes that the prisoners are each offered the same deal AND that the deal is contingent on what the other does, while neither has any knowledge of what the other does. It removes the possibility of any back channel coordination, or of third parties applying pressure.

In other words, the prisoner’s dilemma has nothing to do with actual prisoners or real situations of any kind. What the Obama bunch will do is a few fixers behind the scenes will offer inducements to players such as Susan Rice to keep their mouths shut. These inducements may be in the form of awards, or cushy jobs, or anything else including silence about other crimes.

Meanwhile Republicans will not offer them deals for their testimony because a) they don’t care about bringing down someone who is already out of power and b) They fear the political firestorm that would follow finding any actual evidence against Obama or his cronies.
