Suggest adding “Live” to title because it will be an interesting day.

Chuckie just moved to adjourn to 5pm. Taking roll call vote on that now

I hope not. But from my experiences observing the Republican Party, I would not argue against you.

Is this “majority vote” to change back to the Constitutional option?

Murray and Feinstein behind Chuckie look like they’re at a funeral.

Seems to be working. Every time there's a vote he gets to call for yet another vote. This can go on forever.

Don't the Republicans get a say in how the Senate runs?

What’s next? The RATS all just walk out and make the police drag them back in order to “protest”?

Three step procedure:

1. Have vote to end filibuster, i.e., cloture. The vote failed 55-45, with 60 votes being needed to pass cloture.

2. Change Senate rules to allow a simple majority vote to confirm SCOTUS justice. You only need 51 votes to do change the Senate rules.

3. Vote on confirmation of Gorsuch with only 51 votes needed for confirmation.

-- I didn't know that this motion to delay was scripted, too. --

Both Schumer and the chair were literally reading from a script. I'm sure McConnell was aware this was going to happen.

McConnell just rasied the nuclear point of order.

I sort of object to today's proceeding being nuclear - when Frist was considering this, the deciding vote was going to be Cheney.

Schumer now moves to adjourn until 5 pm and asks for yeas and nays. Motion to adjourn is not debateable, so straght to a simple majority vote. This is a sophomoric delay tactic.

On the vote to confirm Gorsuch, the chair ruled against Mcconnell, and he is appealing the ruling of the chair. The question will be should the ruling of the chair be upheld (may be phrased in the negative, should the ruling of the chair be rejected). Listen carefully to the question, so you don;t have a heart attack as that vote is taken.

I must say I'm surprised the dem0crats are making such a huge tactical error

You presume there are 51 votes to change the rules (Pence does not vote on rules).

In 1967, Hubert Humphrey (VP and therefore President of the Senate) made a ruling from the chair that requiring a supermajority to close debate was unconstitutional, and that debate could be closed with 51 votes.

This ruling was appealed to the floor.

At the time, the Democrats had 68 Senators and the GOP had 32.

Humphrey's ruling was overturned 46-54. The power to block legislation while a Senator is a member of the minority is one of the most awesome powers given to a legislator anywhere in the world. It's not at all clear that all 52 Republican Senators want to give that up.
