Cartels are growing marijuana illegally in California — and there's a war brewing

**SNIP**

Growers often use empty containers like this to store toxic chemicals. In the previous year, every Gatorade bottle Gabriel and his team found at grow sites tested positive for carbofuran, a neurotoxic insecticide that is so nasty it has been banned in the U.S., Canada and the EU.

Farmers in Kenya have used it to kill lions. Symptoms of exposure range from nausea and blurred vision to convulsions, spontaneous abortions, and death. “They just leave these sitting around,” Gabriel says as he carefully swabs the bottle.

As the last of the plants at Palmetto are cut down, Gabriel totals up his findings: 3.6 kilograms (8 pounds) of bromodialone, a restricted-use neurotoxic rodenticide, and two bottles of malathion, an organophosphate insecticide that’s basically a watered-down version of the nerve agent sarin. Each bottle is enough to make 1,900 liters (500 gallons) when mixed with water. All of it has to be left behind, at least for now, since moving it would require hazmat protocols and more time and money than anyone has at the moment.

Sounds like they leave a huge mess.

Sounds like hysterics too. Malathion is an insecticide that is almost non poisonous to mammals. Not sure what a rodenticide is for but some cats could serve that purpose. Let the enterprise back into the light and it will not be carried on as though in darkness.

Does Gov. Moonbeam know this?

Yet another reason to legalize it at all levels. You don’t see illegal tobacco grows in National Forests.

Are they not breaking the law......

It wouldn’t surprise me that Brown and the CA legislature were in on payola schemes. God knows they’re crooked enough.

I was told the new CA law allows individuals to grow up to 6 plants. And next year there will be licensed growers. Yet right now, the cartels still grow in our forests.

But yet we have freepers worried about the environmental impacts of the wall. Like stepping over a $100.00 bill to pick up a nickel.

It’s increasing by leaps and bounds due to legalization.

Exactly wrong.

It’s legal in OR and CA and the illegal grows have exploded. Illegal as in stealing water, not getting permits, using banned chemicals, growing ag in residential areas, growing in National forests, etcetcetc.

The reason for legalization is supposedly all this tax $$$ that will be pouring into the state coffers so they can continue to destroy the states with their commieprog agendas. Of course the illegal grows pay no taxes...

I live in OR and it’s gone crazy since legalization, and friends over the border in CA tell me the same thing.

It actually is in the light in CA. recreational and medicinal pot are legal.

Sort of like untaxed figs.

No taxes or costly regulation they can undercut the legal market and sell as much as they can grow.

This stuff wouldn’t make it past testing in the legal market. It’s going to black markets, elsewhere.

Grey and black markets vitiate the openness. Trying to tax a weed is doomed.

One obvious lie is about malathion. It in NOT watered down sarin, and once you spot one lie then that pretty much trashes the credibility of the entire article. The author is obviously an ignorant jerk trying to stir up panic.
