The amounts are regulated, most they can pay is $1350 for domestic flights. But you point is well taken, they tried to go cheap.
Exactly! That was their only choice, keep upping the offer. Unless there is a federal law or reg that allows them to kick people off planes because they overbooked, they had no basis to put their hands on this man, and will pay a lot more now.

if they had made it THIS intrusive and uncomfortable for the middle class to fly in the 20th century no one would ever have gone.
Many people with mobility disabilities literally have to use diapers because there are no bathrooms on planes large enough. It is VERY DIFFICULT even to change a BABY’S diaper on a plane these days. The lack of personal space is so bad I hate flying. There must be a better way to treat your customers.
This is just the last straw, beating a paid customer who did not do anything wrong off a plane. They will be out MILLIONS for this. They were too stupid even to quietly offer one by one passengers $2k to take a later flight?? (That way the passengers won’t gang up and hold out for $10k. Just start privately saying one on one to random passengers, “Hey. Were in a tough spot. We are about to offer $2k for the seats, if you are interested I’ll take you right now.” )
