Professor sues Walmart over ‘toilet cleaner’ on fishing license

Wal-Mart really soiled his reputation.

A Montana professor is suing Wal-Mart for libel because an employee listed the academic’s occupation as “toilet cleaner” on a fishing license application.

Montana State University assistant professor Gilbert Kalonde bought a state fishing license from a Wal-Mart in April 2015, and a store employee used Kalonde’s MSU I.D. when filling out an application form, according to a complaint filed in Gallatin County District Court.

But when the employee entered Kalonde’s occupation into a computer database, he wrote that the professor “cleans toilets,” the complaint charges.

The incident exposed Kalonde to “hatred, contempt [and] ridicule,” the suit claims.

Poor snowflake professor. I guess many in that occupation lack a sense of humor and can laugh at themselves. I don't think he's entitled to some free cash for this.

I guess the professor just does not understand that all work is honorable.

Why would a fishing license require such information? I’m already annoyed that several states require a social security number for a fishing license.

Hatred? Who hates toilet cleaners?

Still...what is the purpose of including this information on a fishing license?

What does he teach? If it’s soft “science” then toilet cleaner is a big step up.

Not sure why your occupation would need to be on your fishing licence, but who is going to see it anyway? Only the game warden If he asks for it.

Janitors should file a class action suit against the professor for describing their hard, honest work as deserving “hatred, contempt [and] ridicule.” Perhaps his co-workers should be parties to the suit.

Might even be hate speech considering the ethnic remarks he made.

Some of these leftwing professors are lower than toilet cleaners. They are the stuff that toilette cleaners remove from toilettes.

Perhaps he should just extricate himself from the situation rather than publicize it (especially if he is so embarrassed).

I was close to a very godly, elderly lady (who passed away two years ago) who tripped in a Walmart parking lot because there was a piece of metal improperly bolted to the ground and protruding a couple of inches up. She fell and broke her nose. Even though she was poor and had medical bills from this, she refused to even ask for the store to pay her expenses, let alone any other damages. She was generous and forgiving to a fault.

But it seems like most of society just wants be offended over something so they can turn it into a lottery ticket through the courts or PR stunts. And this drives up the cost of doing business.

I guess he is to good to clean toilets.

In the hippie days there was a popular novel about a commune that claimed all work was honorable and should be paid the same.

You know.

Socialist utopian equality.

“I’m already annoyed that several states require a social security number for a fishing license.”

Washington State tried that. I got into a hell of an argument with a store clerk over it. He insisted the state needed it for identification. I showed him on my SS card where it plainly stated, “Not to be used for identification”. Tried to explain to him that Federal trumps State, all to no avail. Finally told him I guessed I’d fish without a license that year and I did.

Nothing about SS is on the current licenses as far as I know.

Wouldn’t you at least insist the license be revised?

So who are all these people he is sharing his fishing license with that treat him with such contempt? Surely not fellow fisher men. Fish and Wildlife perhaps?
