Deportation overload: Probe says DHS can’t keep up, leaves risky illegals out on the streets

The Obama administration left the government’s deportation force in disarray, according to a new report Thursday from the Homeland Security inspector general, which found deportation officers are so overloaded that they lose track of important cases, leaving illegal immigrants roaming communities when they could have been kicked out. The problem is so bad that officers may even be losing track of critical national security cases, the inspector general said. The surge of illegal immigrants under President Obama made the situation worse, adding hundreds of thousands of cases to the docket, even though officers weren’t given any new tools to help them deal with the backlog. Officers in D.C., average more than 10,000 cases per person, while deportation officers in Atlanta have more than 5,000 cases assigned to them. “You might work 18 hours a day, but you still won’t get caught up,” one officer told the inspector general. The report could give ammunition to President Trump, who has proposed a massive “deportation force” to speed up the arrest and ouster of illegal immigrants, and who has called for a major expansion in detention beds, so more immigrants can be held — making it easier to deport them. Deporting an illegal immigrant requires getting the home country to issue travel documents — and that home country is often resistant, not wanting to take back a troubled individual. Overloaded agents let those tricky cases slip, leaving illegal immigrants on the streets.

The Obama administration must have been devastated when DT won the election - knowing all their deeds of benign neglect would suddenly become public.

Whatever problems pop up now, at least we’re working on it. That’s more than we can say about the last 50 years.

In Reagan’s defense, he signed legislation increasing the penalties associated with illegal immigration, but Bush, Clinton, Bush, and Obama refused to enforce them.

Obama ought to be prosecuted for .... something, pertaining to this. What he did was deliberate. Deliberately putting American citizens at risk.

Dr. Ben Carson found $500 billion in fraud and mismanagement in HUD.

Audit every agency, cut their budget accordingly. Send it to DHS. Problem solved. I’d still audit DHS! LOL.

“Whatever problems pop up now, at least we’re working on it.”

President Trump will most likely have this fixed before the end of the year.

It looks like he’s making big progress.

I can only imagine how good it will be when the wall is built and enforcement is rolling along in a top notch manner.

I’m reading on the forum the flow has dropped by 95%, but I have to take this with a grain of salt.

The same media has been claiming we had no idea how many were coming over, and besides it was a small number.

How could that small number have dropped by 95%?

It couldn’t have. So now they address more accurate numbers, to prove how good things are already, and that there isn’t really a need for a wall.

Liars!

We need the wall.

Next Democrat that comes in, I want that wall there to protect us. Lord knows they won’t.

I’m available, have taken the oath and I have my own weapons. All I need is a badge! (actually I still have my USAF Security Police Badge if they’re running short).
