Kellyanne Conway on Friday said the Trump administration is confident that a government shutdown will be avoided next week.
But the senior White House aide would not say whether money for President Trump's long-touted border wall would have to be included in a government funding bill.
"Im going to let OMB director Mick Mulvaney and the president and others address that, but were confident that the government will not be shut down next week," Conway, the Counselor to the President, said during an appearance on Fox News.
The White House on Thursday said it wanted an upcoming government spending bill to include money for the wall. The bill must pass next week in order for the government to avoid a shutdown.
But Trump's border wall is deeply disliked by Democrats, and the spending bill could lose their support if it includes the $1.4 billion in funding for the project that the White House has demanded.
In an interview with The Associated Press on Wednesday, White House Budget Director Mick Mulvaney said Trump deserved to have his priorities funded in the spending bill.
We know there are a lot of people on the Hill, especially in the Democratic Party, who dont like the wall, but they lost the election," he said. "And the president should, I think, at least have the opportunity to fund one of his highest priorities in the first funding bill under his administration."

Come on, liberal Republicans, shut down the government to show the president who’s boss.
But, wait, didn’t the last shutdown show America just how little that means to them?
WHY DOESNT TRUMP THREATEN TO SHUT THE GOVERNMENT DOWN? Conservatives know that a government shutdown is good for the nation’s finances.
It is the threat that lobs can’t handle.
It’s incredibly bad for the nation’s finances to shut down the government.
Now, actually cutting entitlement spending - THAT would be good for the nation’s finances, but the idiot jackass Freedom Caucus torpedoed that idea last month. Too afraid of backlash to actually do their jobs. Meadows is the most spineless weasel in congress.
I can hear him.
I'm not going to shut it down because I'm not going to give all those damn federal workers a paid vacation.
Yep! Which is what it always turns out to be!
What *would* be cool though (but I know it would never happen) would be for Trump, after a shutdown is over, to announce that certain gov't agencies would be PERMANENTLY shuttered. LOL.
Yeah, because it worked out SO great for Cruz in 2013! That’s when he got Obamacare defunded, and propelled himself to becomeing President!
Oh wait, that was just a fantasy in Ted’s Lyin’ head...
But do no harm....what about the mother with 3 kids....and the guy who's just sucking up his time for 20 year retirement....who actually does sh** work.
But wait— I thought the mainstream media said that Conway was gone? Guess not. More fake news.
It is myth and a hoax that government shut downs hurt Republicans. One wouldn’t want to perpetuate a hoax, would one?
We plan to recover the cost of the wall from Mexico. If the funds aren’t included in the budget, Shut It Down.
While we’re on the topic of a feral government that can’t do anything (but make payroll), any furloughed “non-essential” federal employees: no `vacay’ this time ...
earmark all of them for reduction in force.
And use the same protocols used in 2013 so they can’t say, “Why, we’re all essential—this time.”
We need border security.
We don’t need to prop up any longer a bloated & hostile federal work force—an army of idle, expensive, apparatchik partisans and parasitic bloodsuckers, “deep state” uniparty social justice warriors, open border shills & and MSM moles.
— REPUBLICAN AGENDA —
Shut it down!
Lock them up!
Build the Wall!
Deport them All!
Repeal Obamacare Now!
... any questions?
Well for one thing government shutdowns aren’t really shutdowns. They generally shutdown only about 10% of the government, and they make that 10% the part that people need to live their lives, thus making sure everybody knows how irritating the other side it. Sadly it’s pure grandstanding BS from both sides, and doesn’t actually accomplish anything.
It would be interesting to see how much government we could live without.
Please....Shut it down...and don’t retro - pay the loser fed employees as is usually done. Usually all this is a paid vacation for the slackers.
