Florida High School Students Forced to Remove Cross Jewelry and Participate in LGBT Activities

Students in a math class at Riverview High School in Florida are being persecuted for their faith. They are punished for not removing their cross jewelry. They are harassed for not embracing the LGBT agenda pushed on them by their lesbian teacher. But one ninth-grade student is pushing back. Her attorneys filed a demand letter requiring the teacher to cease and desist by close of business Thursday.Cross.jpg - 500

Parents told Liberty Counsel that at least three students were not allowed to wear their cross necklaces. Math teacher Lora Jane Riedas claimed they were “gang symbols.” When one student asked why, Riedas told her she was disrespectful and she must take her necklace off. The necklace held a crucifix less than an inch long. The student felt she was forced to deny her faith.

Riedas is a member of the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network’s Leadership Institute. She engages in blatant LGBT political activism in her classroom. Her classroom is decorated with LGBT insignia and rainbows. She decorated students’ notebooks in rainbow stickers without their permission. She singled out one student for several false “misbehavior” claims after the student removed the sticker from her notebook.

Riedas has plans to promote GLSEN’s “Day of Silence” Friday. GLSEN’s guide requires students to take part in political activism. Liberty Counsel stated that students can either “’go along to get along’ or risk being ‘outed’ as disagreeing with the teacher.” Students are encouraged to support the LGBT agenda and Day of Silence by not speaking. Those who speak will be required to answer class questions.

>>sorry. I usually enjoy conversations with fellow FReepers. Sometimes I even learn something! But I will not trade insults. So I think I’ll pass on continuing any conversation with you

It wasn’t an insult. It was a critique of a really bad post.

But feel free to not learn anything. It makes those kind of posts easier to write.

Hey, if I’m going to hear about their sex lives, they’re going to hear about my Jesus.

If they’re not ashamed of that, then I’m not ashamed of Him.

Sorry, but while hiding faith in public IS easier, but nobody said that standing up for Jesus would be easy.

A demand letter asking her to stop is not enough. Fire her!

But what then of a public school teacher who - on a daily basis - recites a Muslim prayer to the class?
= = =

Allow the kids to bring ‘ear muffs’ to class, and wear them during the prayer, turn their back on the teacher, and pray in tongues.

Actually public schools have become the enemy’s territory. I do not think most kids can fight the spiritual battle needed to survive there, much less prosper. They are sent to school for the 3 Rs (allegedly), but are subjected to intense brainwashing and social engineering. Parents can do battle, but might do better getting kids out of there.

We deal with it the only way we can: SEPARATION.

I am getting weary of complaints about socialist government schools aka pagan academies doing what they have pretty much always done, namely attack Christianity and undermine the traditional family. It is only going to get worse. I have less use for feckless hand wringing than I do the demented “educators”.

"Math teacher Lora Jane Riedas claimed they were “gang symbols.”"

Can't such a claim about cross jewelry be regarded as profiling?

With all due respect to mom & pop, also Florida FReepers, please consider the following.

If Florida parents were making sure that their children were being taught the Constitution as constitutional lawmakers had intended for it to be understood, then the referenced high school students would probably be able to argue the following points against the LGBT activist teacher’s actions.

Not only had the Founding States made the Constitution’s Clause 1 of Section 10 of Article I to clarify that the states are prohibited from making laws / policies which establish protected / privileged classes which this low-information math teacher is effectively doing imo, but also consider the following.

When the states ratified the 14th Amendment (ratified under very questionable circumstances imo) they prohibited themselves from abridging constitutional rights that the states amend the Constitution to expressly protect, 1st Amendment-protected religious expression and free speech in this example.

So the referenced math teacher is arguably not only violating the Constituton’s prohibition on protected / privileged classes, but also Section 1 of the 14th Amendment.

But what’s worse, the unconstitutional actions of the misguided teacher, or parents who evidently aren’t making sure that their children are being taught about their constitutional protections?

In fact, note that Acts 22:25-29 indicates that Paul claimed his protections as a Roman citizen to save himself from being flogged.

Why am I not surprised at forced indoctrination by public schools.

Why am I not surprised, that now that parents know this, they still send their kids for this indoctrination. Free babysitting service, besides no matter how bad public educations gets, the school my kids go to is alright.

So a crucifix is out, as is a Star of David, as is a hijab.

I am STRONGLY against the hijab. So note this. If you allow the crucifix at a public school, you must also allow the hijab.

You are a liar.

How about prayer rugs, prayer rooms, foot baths or halal food? They exist in many schools.

Lora Jane Riedas is co-chair of the nonprofit organization, Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network of Tampa Bay, and also oversees the school’s Gay Straight Alliance.

“Sometimes it sounds the other way but that’s just because the opposition is so loud,” said Lora-Jane Riedas, co-chair of GLSEN Tampa Bay and a teacher at Riverview High School in Hillsborough County.

She oversees the school’s Gay-Straight Alliance and says these days, schools are a more welcoming place for gay youth. But like many members of the LGBT community, she worries about what the administration of President Donald Trump will mean for her students.

“A lot of kids are scared,” she said. “And I think the GSA clubs at their schools are going to be a place where they can at least express themselves express their fears and our message is we just want them to know they’re not alone.”

That’s a very good point! If the crucifix is prohibited, so should prayer rugs, etc. But that doesn’t make me a liar. It makes those in power hypocrites.

Oh, and one more thing. I enjoy conversing with fellow FReepers. As I noted in another post, sometimes I’ll even learn something new. But I won’t trade insults. So if you are moved to call me names again, I won’t respond. Life is too short for that.

But I’m a strict interpreter of the Constitution. So I must reluctantly say that such a prayer would be unconstitutional.

Well, your interpretation is incorrect. It is not unconstitutional. Please cite the EXACT place in the constitution where it references the position of a separation of church and state. Hint.....you can't because it's not there.

You know very little about your rights which means you have no clue of my rights either. Did you know the founding fathers violated copyright to print King James Bibles for use in the schools? Probably not.

In fact court decisions have ruled that school employees can not do any of those things since they are agents of the government. Students do not fall under those restrictions though some schools have applied them.

I retired from teaching 15 years ago largely over just this kind of argument. There is o place for Christians teachers in Public schools but they actively recruit alternate lifestyle employees and Muslims. Take your children out from these schools maybe you will still recognize them as your children in 10 or 20 years else you likely may still recognize them but be unable to socialize with them.

The crucifix is not an exhibit of our perfection, but His.

Those who wear it proclaim their faith and sometimes that can even mean legitimacy of “righteous anger”, against an abomination forced upon innocents.

There’s not much you actually ever quite “get”, I notice from your posts, iffy.

In “academia”, I’m sure you’re correct.

America was once great because she was Christian, founded by Christians with few exceptions, including her great documents, including even her Christian schooling and universities.

In America, Christianity deserves primacy of place in our education, particularly our history classes, US History and World History, and in our culture.

A too tolerant people, Christians dozed off and when they awoke, found they had been removed to the back of the bus, being driven now by academics and Marxists, radical capitalists, both in office and out, who have infiltrated every institution.

No it not time to retreat, by continuing down the road of indulgence in “fairness”. The highjab is OUT. Maybe the Muslem can wear a necklace at school, as a warning that they are anti-American sharia lovers, but the HighJab weapon- hiding apparel is out. Not in the USA.
