A massive power outage in San Francisco caused a blackout Friday morning in neighborhoods across the city, from the Financial District to the Presidio, forcing the closure of businesses, a BART station, cable car service and a federal courthouse, officials said. A spokesman for Pacific Gas and Electric Co. said 95,000 customers lost power and that there had been a fire at a substation at Larkin and Eddy streets. It wasnt immediately clear whether the fire caused the outage, which swept through the city shortly after 9 a.m., or was ignited as a result of the outage. As of 11 a.m., PG&E officials could not provide an estimate for when service would return.
The San Francisco Fire Department was responding to numerous calls for service, including people stuck in elevators, but reported no immediate injuries. Everywhere, sirens blared as engines maneuvered along jammed streets. Traffic lights were out in scores of intersections, and traffic was backing up on downtown streets as drivers grew frustrated and honked at each other. BARTs Montgomery Station was closed due to the outage, and trains were running through the station without stopping. All cable cars were down, as were several Muni bus lines that typically run on electricity from overhead wires, including the 30, 45, 22, and 24. Shuttles were put in place to provide service, according to the Municipal Transportation Agency.

Quick!! Build more windmills
When the power goes out, it’s always gasoline or oil-powered engines that save our a$$.
Ya, Jerry, just keep shutting down the nuclear power plants, the hydro dams, and moving the coal and natural gas plants outside the state....
Your chickens are coming home to roost.
How’s that solar and wind power working out for you?
“On April 18th thru May 5th, 2017, state, local, and federal organizations alike are planning for Operation Gotham Shield 2017 a major nuclear detonation drill in the New York-New Jersey area, along with the U.S.-Canadian border. During this exercise, 4 nuclear devices, 2 of which are rendered safe during the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) Vital Archer Exercise, and one successful 10kt detonation in the NYC/NJ area, along with one smaller detonation on the U.S./Canadian border are to take place.”
A nuclear detonation could be expected to cause a major metropolitan blackout.
That’s a shame. A real shame. ;)
Strange - there was a big power outage at the Port of LA April 20.
This is what happens when you allow Urinating on Light Poles
Someone probably changed the unicorn feed to something more environment friendly and they no longer have enough unicorn farts to power SanFran.
Well like most liberal Californians,Jerry knows that electricity is created “somewhere else” in unlimited quantities just for the benefit of California.
There is an outage in NYC too.
EMP from the NORKS.
I have heard Michael Savage say that it is like Bombay India in San Francisco.
He was attacked last month after dinner, on the streets.
The infrastructure of the city is broken down.
Pelosi can provide enough hot air to fuel the City.
Several years ago when I lived in Hollywood, CA there was a fire in the Hollywood substation. Our power was out for a full week. Apparently the parts they needed to replace were so old/outdated that they were really hard to find replacements for.
Coordinated attack? NYC subway experienced an outage as well this morning.
“When the power goes out, its always gasoline or oil-powered engines that save our a$$.”
Except in a “pinch” where even a quartz watch will not be running.
Well, one thing’s for sure, there won’t be a mini baby-boom nine months from now like after the great New York power outage in the 60’s..................
