“President Hollande told voters Le Pen would ruin the economy if she is elected”
Current French economic indicators
1. GDP .4%
2. GOV. debt to GDP ratio, 96%
3. Unemployment 10%
You can’t make this stuff up, well other than Hollande.

FReepers should not get their hopes up, a la Trump. This is not “historic.” Le Pen’s father reached the same point in 2002, coming in 2nd to Chirac and ahead of expected 2nd-place finisher Lionel Jospin. All other parties then rallied behind Chirac — even though most couldn’t stand him — and Chirac won the biggest landslide in French history, 82% -17%. I put the odds of a Marie Le Pen election at around 5-10%, and have been saying this on FR for months.

I laugh at how the media keeps defining Le Pen as "far right." There's no such thing in France, birthplace of the group of political ideologies derived from Marxism, itself derived from the earlier proto-socialist movement that gave rise to the French Revolution. Le Pen is socialist light with a nationalist, populist twist.
I hope she wins because it would likely mean the end of the EU. But no one should be fooled that she is Right wing as we understand it.
