No blink. It’s a symbolic move to attract voters from all the parties, not just her own. Kind of an opening for running a more generalized campaign appeal. According to the article at the link.

She is not dropping out of the race, but rather stepping down as the head of the FN so that she can run simply as the Party’s candidate for President.

Hardly. Her one chance is to run outside the conventional political lines as a populist and nationalist, above a party identification, and to label her opponent as more of the same (terrorism, cars burning, no go Sharia zones, etc.). That should sound familiar to anyone who followed Trump’s screw-the-Republican-establishment campaign.

No, actually it’s a smart move - unfortunately I think Macron already did the same thing so it will look like a copy-cat move on her part.
