“The 1861-65 Civil War between the northern and southern states was principally caused by slavery.”

Really? That’s why the Union invaded Kentucky, right?

(/duh)

We out West are a lot more tolerant than they were in the old South. The way the Feds treat us as THEIR source for food, minerals, and energy, we should have rebelled against against the East coast establishment years ago.

Better check your history. The North made it a very clear policy to NOT invade Kentucky, despite the fact that not doing so significantly hamstrung the war effort in the western theater. Kentucky did not secede, but declared neutrality in the conflict originally. The Federal Government was certainly not happy with this declaration, but recognized that a hostile Kentucky would endanger control of both the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers as well as the western railroads. The North had little choice but to accept Kentucky’s neutrality and base troops in nearby Cairo, IL. Eventually, Kentucky’s neutrality was breached by Cinfederate troops moving to occupy the town of Columbia on the Mississippi to counteract the threat of the Feds at Cairo. Once that occurred, the Feds were free to move in to defend Kentucky from the Confederate invasion.

Kentucky was trying to remain neutral. Lincoln didn't send any troops into Kentucky until Leonidas Polk took Confederate troops into the state. Look it up.

And that’s why the Confederates opened fire on Fort Sumter?

“On September 3, 1861, Confederate Maj. Gen. Leonidas Polk ordered Brig. Gen. Gideon Pillow to seize Columbus, Kentucky on the Mississippi River before Union forces could do so.[10] This ended Kentucky’s neutrality, led to Union Brig. Gen. Ulysses S. Grant’s seizure of Paducah, Kentucky on September 6, 1861,”

Kentucky was invaded by the confederacy. But nice try
