That was their cynical fear, their worst fear, and very legitimate fear. The Soviets loathed the prospect of this stridently anti-communist pope working with the stridently anti-communist president against their objectives.
Make no mistake: Pope John Paul II and President Ronald Reagan scared the Kremlin. And with good reason. The pope implored his people to choose God’s side over what the Protestant Reagan and the Roman Catholic Church both called “godless communism” and against what Reagan labeled an “Evil Empire.”
Soviet officials knew this Polish pontiff was a grave affront to their mortal existence. If only he was dead. Frankly, they wanted him dead. And now, on May 13, 1981, they were ready to take their shot.

Buried in this narrative is the point that Putin had nothing to do with this, so adding his name to the title is a bit over the top in guilt by association
The author seems to think Trump should press Putin to reveal excesses and crimes committed by the GRU and KGB almost 40 years ago
I would think Putin’s response would be for Trump to reveal the misdeeds of our own intelligence agencies

JFK Jr. was bumped off. He was going to come out of the closet as a REPUBLICAN and run for the Senate vs. Hillary. It would have been over for the Democrats as the GOP he would have gotten 100% of the women vote.
If this is so secretive, why and how do we know the report fingers the GRU. The “source” is committing a felony by discussing something that is classified.

I think you may have jumped to a wrong conclusion by just reading the excerpt about a connection between Pope John Paul II and President Trump. Dr. Kengor is asking for President Trump to get President Putin to open up the GRU and KGB archives about the Soviet plan to assassinate Pope John Paul II. Yes, one has to read the article to discover that. I had thought about truncating the article’s title to “...the Plot to Kill Pope John Paul II,” but decided to post it as the American Spectator wrote it.
No, I read the article, having President Trump come out with this, but would he? I don’t think even Alex Jones would come out with something like this...
Putin wasn’t ‘running’ anything at this time, and to tie Putin in the title seems a little pushy to me, this just doesn’t feel right...

The Bushes and Hinkleys were dining at the Hinkleys two nights before President Reagan was shot, that's when James Brady was shot also, and Hinkley’s son was the one that did it...
Because of the ‘ties’ to the JFK connection with George H. W. Bush and now with this shooting of President Reagan, there was a book that came out about a year later, I didn't get the book and I don't remember the title, but it ties the JFK, Cruz, Bush, Hinkleys, and Reagan together...
Maybe someone on here knows of the book and knows the title...that's as far as I know...I have done research on things, have my own opinions, but this information above has been publicized and people know about it...
Dr. Kengor, in my reading, explicitly states that he is NOT linking Putin with the plot.
Kengor wants President Trump to talk with Putin about releasing the closed archives of the GRU (Soviet/Russian Military Intelligence) and the KGB archives that were not opened during the early years after the fall of the USSR.
Thus, to me, this is not an “Alex Jones” wild-eyed conspiracy, but request to get the archives released for the full story about the attempt that the Bulgarians ran for their Soviet masters.
The Bushes were close to the Hinkleys.
The shooter had a lunch date with Neil Bush the day after the shooting, even.
You are thinking of Pope John Paul I — Aug. 26-Sept. 28, 1978.
In his article, Dr. Kengor tells about the assassain’s confession of working for the Bulgarian version of the GRU/KGB that was executing the Soviet Operation:
“A few years after the shooting, Agca himself fingered the Bulgarians as his accomplices, though Sofia and Moscow vigorously denied any involvement. Early on, Italian investigators began gathering critical information, more of which would emerge from files after the Soviet collapse — smuggled out of Moscow by a KGB archivist in 1992.”
The “so secretive” are the actual GRU files, in Moscow, of the actual operation. Not that the Soviets were behind it. There was enough intel traffic during the 80s about the Soviets doing everything in their power to destroy John Paul II that it is not surprising that the Soviets would have wanted him killed. Also, note that Dr. Kengor has gotten much of his information via the Freedom of Information Act in requesting federal records.
It would be kinda comical for us to demand they open their records about JPII while our JKF records were still locked up tight.
