Theres corruption in DC...
This concept comes into clear view when we look at ACA and AHCA, better known as Obamacare and Trumpcare. These two competing bills are so similar one would think the same people who support one would support the other, but the exact opposite is true. Its divided along party lines. In fact, nobody is on record supporting both, though some Federalist-minded politicians were wise enough to support neither.
Congressman Justin Amash reluctantly supported the latter. He was so disgusted by the necessity to support AHCA as the lesser-of-two-evils that he penned a response to his vote on Facebook. Of note is that he indicates just how similar the two bills really are:
"The AHCA repeals fewer than 10 percent of the provisions in the Affordable Care Act. It is an amendment to the ACA that deliberately maintains Obamacares framework. It reformulates but keeps tax credits to subsidize premiums. Instead of an individual mandate to purchase insurance, it mandates a premium surcharge of 30 percent for one year following a lapse of coverage. And the bill continues to preserve coverage for dependents up to age 26 and people with pre-existing conditions."
As a party, we have not wavered on our stance that the ACA should be repealed and NOT replaced by the AHCA. Now that the system has been shocked into acute awareness of the pitfalls surrounding government-mandated health care, its ripe to go back to a free market system that allows consumers, competition, and freedom to drive down costs and improve coverage. The nuances and safety nets can be ironed out after repealing Obamacare and analyzing reactions. To replace it while repealing it is a purely political move, one that paints the GOP as being more concerned about winning future elections than fixing the nation.
Just like the Democrats.
The two parties are becoming indistinguishable.
If something is clearly not working, you dont replace it with something so similar. Weve learned in the last seven years that government-mandated health care doesnt work. Now, weve learned in the last seven weeks that GOP leadership never really intended to rid us of government-mandated health care. They simply wanted it rebranded with an elephant logo slapped on the box. This is reason #294 that the country needs the Federalist Party to rise.
Wow, I didn’t realize Obamacare defunded Planned Parenthood.
Thanks for keeping it real.
right, they are both uniparty.
What the House created repeals such funding but the Senate has to make their own version and the two bills argued over and turned into one final bill.
Tell me the replacement defunds Planned Parenthood in the final bill that ends up on the President's desk for him to sign.
I’ve read a couple of articles explaining the AHCA here on FR. I think it’s much better.
This is ObamaCARE/RomneyCARE/TrumpCARE/HillaryCARE
and it is an OVERREACH into Peoples’ lives
by the EXEMPT, who will remain EXEMPT.
There is only so much a president can do.
He fought for this bill.
What do you want from the man? He does what you want him to, and then you look for an excuse to discount it.
I have no idea what the Senate will send back over and neither do you.
Will it have the defunding in it still? Perhaps not. Are you unhappy Trump fought to get defunding in?
Are you aware he signed legislation that makes it legal for states to withhold federal grant money from Planned Parenthood?
He’s done that already, so I’m not going to act as if it doesn’t matter to him if this is in the Health Care bill.
I think it is too.
It’s not exactly what I wanted, but I do think it is a lot better.
I will support this, as long as the Senate doesn’t go rogue.
When does the WHCA get debated, signed, and go into effect?
No both parties work for the lobbyists. Lobbyists spend $50 million per Congress person and Senator. Probably included in the 50 million is it vice on how to pull you into voting for them the next time.
Let me make myself clear. People touting what has happened before it actually happens are just full of crap. Trump and the majority of the House want to end all funding for Planned Parenthood.
Saying what Trump and the House majority wants to happen will happen before the whole issue is finally settled is nothing but helping to create false expectations that people who want to beat up Trump will use on the public who have read all the cheers for something that hasn't happened yet.
Keep feeding false expectations and cheering for things that haven't happened yet. It makes you look like you either don't understand basics Civics or are fine with the idea that a year from now a great many people will forget that the cheers came before the result was achieved and therefore sour on Trump because "he said he ended that funding".
have a wonderful day
Did you have to mention Trump? Ah no!
You’ve clearly outlined the fact that the Senate has to address the bill, and that’s true.
None the less you downplay the fact that Trump pushed this bill and it does contain defunding of Planned Parenthood.
Is that good or bad? You address it as if it isn’t fair to state what the House or Trump wanted. Say what?
It raises unfair expectations. Oh really? Another words I shouldn’t be happy the House voted up a bill that defunds Planned Parenthood?
Now you dip into the civics lesson, and it devolves from there.
Folks on this forum know how things work. We got the House to pass a bill containing the defunding of Planned Parenthood, yet you don’t see that as any indication of what the House or Trump wanted, despite them struggling to get the bill passed.
Seriously?
You have a good day too.
Damn, you honest to God do read into comments whatever you want to see.
For some reason, you now equate comments clearly related only to the House and Senate as something that is a criticism of Trump.
I'm sure the folks on this forum see how things work.
They can clearly see that some people here read into the comments of others whatever they like in order to start an argument for their own entertainment
Trump got very involved in the House effort to get this bill passed there. He was integral to making calls and helping the staff in the house zero in on hold-outs.
No, you didn’t mention Trump. None the less, he was as big a part of the House passing the bill as the House leadership was.
Still, you try to pass this off as if it’s only a House and Senate issue. While technically correct, it’s not just a House and Senate effort.
I’ve been talking to others all afternoon about Trump’s determination to get this bill passed, and that includes the part about defunding Planned Parenthood.
You came along while I was still addressing others on the topic, and I did connect Trump to our conversation more than I would have had I not been talking to between three and five others at the same time.
I can understand your frustration. I don’t really blame you.
I’ve had a number of folks trying to dismiss everything Trump has done because his daughter and son-in-law are working for him.
I apologize for giving you a hard time based on giving Trump short shrift, which you really didn’t do.

They’re both communist scum. They’ve destroyed health care and health insurance markets and are bankrupting the country.
Okay - describe a better plan that actually has a chance of being passed - not just a wet dream fantasy.
