In a hilarious, if embarrassing, turn of events, as students were marching in at the Arlington High School Graduation outside of Memphis, Tennessee, a savage brawl among parents erupted — and it was caught on camera.
There are multiple videos of the violence, from different angles. Although the video that best shows the absurdity of it all is shown below, you can view a closer angle at USA Today. Please be aware — due to a high level of profanity on that recording, viewer discretion is advised.
The video below starts out looking like a perfectly normal graduation ceremony — the students were filing into the arena in which they were to graduate, smiling, waving and occasionally giving each other high fives. Pretty much what you’d expect.
Then things become a great deal more serious:
The fight sees parents wailing on each other for no immediately discernible reason — but USA Today claimed that initial reports seemed to indicate that the fight originated over people laying claim to seats.
Oh, well, at least there was a good reason to ruin what was likely the most important day of your child’s life up until that point.
I mean, don’t get me wrong, fight for your seats so that your family can sit together — just don’t actually fight for them.
Tammy Mason, superintendent of the Arlington Community Schools, was not at all pleased. As she said in a statement Wednesday to USA Today: “Last night we celebrated 500 students who graduated from Arlington High School.
“This year’s class earned over $30,600,000 in college scholarships. It was unfortunate that a couple of adults in the audience exhibited the behavior they did prior to the ceremony beginning and thus has caused a distraction from the celebration of our students’ accomplishments.”
Not what I expected.
embarrassing those poor kids.
They’re trying to graduate from HS and the parents are behaving like spoiled preschoolers.
500 kids and $30+ MILLION in scholarships. That’s an AVERAGE of $61,200 per kid! They must all be geniuses! Or something.
Another reason why college is so expensive (that and the easy government loans).
The Ringling Bros. Circus just closed down forever.
Probably because it couldn’t compete with the real circus sideshow on the streets and in our neighborhoods every day.
These days the clowns, freaks, animals and side shows are outside the Big Top and performing for free.
Damn white folk acting out.
Hold ma beer an watch this!
I wonder what Jerry Springer’s “Final Thought” on this would be.
It does sound implausible, but it must be the 4-year total and I wouldn’t be surprised if they folded all the loans and work-study into the figure. Back in the day we were given a “total” sum for the financial aid package even though not all of it was grant or “scholarship”....
>> embarrassing those poor kids.
What? The kids weren’t acting all that much better. High school graduations have turned into chimpfests. Embarrassing.

My first thought was yikes, that’s a lot of debt.
“This year’s class earned over $30,600,000 in college scholarships”
At least $30,000,000 wasted going to todays colleges, so the students can seek safe places to comfort them in their snowflake daze.
Video is nothing, too short don’t waste your clicks.
Nor myself.
My daughters class was a bit more precise in their wording... over $25milliin awarded and over $5.3M accepted. Seems that a lot of those dollars are from different schools to the same kids. But they can only go to one.

When I graduated high school in 1976, the audience politely applauded after each name was called. When I attended my nephew’s high school graduation a few years ago it was chaos. Air horns, screaming, people jumping up and down, so much noise I could not hear the names being called out.
Same here (Class of ‘77). Young students today are sooo much more emotionally supportive of each other and that’s what makes them better than the rest of us. Looking back on it now, I wish we could’ve been more like they are. I’m sooo ashamed! /s
Later
LOL!
Crazy white folks!!!
I know what all of you racists were expecting to see!!!
Me too. :)
I was being critical of Jerry Springer and that particular “genre’” of TV show. You put a negative-toned spin on what I posted and that is an abuse of the power of suggestion. Keep it up and I’ll be critical of you!
