Gunmen with machine guns kill 26 Coptic Christians in Egypt
Al Arabiya (English) ^ | Friday, 26 May 2017 | Staff writer

Ten masked gunmen, who used machine guns, opened fire at two buses carrying Egyptian Coptic Christians to a monastery south of Cairo on Friday, killing 26 including children and injuring 26 others, Al Arabiya News Channel reported.

The Christian group was travelling in two buses and a truck through the province, which is home to a sizeable Christian minority, the governor of Egypt’s Minya province, Essam al-Bedaiwy, said.

The health ministry said there were between eight and 10 attackers dressed in military uniforms, according to witnesses.

No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, which came on the eve of the holy Muslim month of Ramadan.

Coptic Christians, who make up about 10 percent of Egypt’s population of 92 million, have been the subject of a series of deadly attacks in recent months.

About 70 have been killed in bomb attacks on churches in the cities of Cairo, Alexandria and Tanta since December. Those attacks were claimed by ISIS.

Late last month Pope Francis visited Egypt in part to show his support for the Christians of this Muslim majority Arab nation who have been increasingly targeted by Islamic militants.

During the trip, Francis paid tribute to the victims of the December bombing at Cairo’s St. Peter’s church, which is located in close proximity to the St. Mark's cathedral, the seat of the Coptic Orthodox Church.

Following the pope’s visit, ISIS affiliate in Egypt vowed to escalate attacks against Christians, urging Muslims to steer clear of Christian gatherings and western embassies as they are targets of their group’s militants.

Copts rallied behind general-turned-president, Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi, in 2013 when he ousted his Islamist predecessor Mohammed Mursi, who hails from the Muslim Brotherhood group. Attacks on Christian homes, businesses and churches subsequently surged, especially in the country’s south.

No. Traveling here and there allowed me to witness different cultures practicing different religions. I appreciate Buddhism very much and the way the practicing communities interact with their religion on a daily basis. It gives me great comfort and joy.

Your handle, Chgogal, sounds like a Tibetan name but having read your past posts I had thought you were not a Buddhist or a Tibetan. I don’t remember specifically now what brought me to that conclusion. I guess I was right though.

Dear Grasshopper, life sometimes provides very simple answers.

Chgo = Chicago
gal = gal

I take it, Nepal, India, Bhutan and Tibet are the areas that influence you more than Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar and Laos?

ROTFLMAO!

Change the spelling to Chogyal, do a search on that, and you’ll see why I made my mistake, Master Po. ;-)

Yes, I practice one of the Tibetan traditions of Buddhism. Most of the teachers I have met and taken teachings from were from the Amdo region of eastern Tibet, forced out by the Chinese.

>>Just so you know, not all western Buddhists are New Agey.
Some of us practice the real thing. I’ll grant you that a
lot of them are. As are a lot of western Christians.

You can also check back and you will find that I did include “a lot of Western Christians” since Progressive Protestants make up a large portion of the Mainline Protestant denominations and most of the “hip, cool church” non-denoms.

And, as you admit, a lot of Buddhists are just as Humanist.

But, I guess its no longer safe to assume that people understand that when a person makes a general statement, they do not mean ALL members of the population being spoken of.

Scott Adams explains it best:

Watch the clip for the Absurd Absolute tell for cognitive dissonance that happens at ten seconds in. The scientist defines the opposition argument with the absurd absolutes “anything” and “everything.” Whenever you see your opposition create a strawman argument with absurd absolutes, it means you won the debate. You only see this behavior when the opposition has no response to your real argument; they have to transform it into an absurd absolute in order to have any response at all.

Yes, I saw your comments about humanist Christians. Sorry, it was my bad taking offense at your comment. It looked like a broad brush but that’s no excuse. My apologies!

can't we all just hold hands and sing songs?....isn't that the real solution?.../sarcasm/

what really kills me is that these CHRISTIANS should have been offered asylum well before any country took in the stinking stone age moslem animals....yet during the bammy reign, it was just about all moslems...

“Egypt will not hesitate at all to strike terrorist camps anywhere,” Sisi said during the TV address, adding that Cairo does not “conspire” against any country, and is keen to full protect its national security.

Sisi did not specify any country, however, he said since the fall of the Libyan regime in 2011, Egypt was watching its borders carefully.

“I say again, any camps being currently used to train terrorists, Egypt will strike,” he said. “This message is clear.”

He repeated: “We will not hesitate in protecting our people,” in what he called “evil.”

He also urged US President Donald Trump to “prioritize” crushing terrorism.”

Sisi must have missed Trumps speech in Saudi Arabia.

Maybe he should use more of Egypt's resources and not just wait for ‘help’ from the US.

“Drive them out”.

We should take more Christian refugees while Egypt exterminates it's problem.

I don’t know, but if President Sisi can find them, there will be no repeat offenses.

“The CPs are vehemently opposed to Humanism.”

Yes. The movement called Humanism is Marxism in a vernier.

Like Liberation Theology? Which is Marxism in a very thin religious wrapper.

“Ramadan again? Crap. Be vewwy vewwy quiet. I’m hunting Chwistians.”

That is EXACTLY what I told Beau yesterday morning! He was quizzing me with Trivia from our page-a-day calendar and he noted that Ramadan started.

I said - “Let the killings of Christians begin.” :(

I HATE IT when I’m right about these things. *SPIT*

This is the face of Islam. Many people still don’t get it. There isn’t a single criminal in the entire U.S. Prison system that even comes close to the average Islamic pig, not one. Mass murder of unarmed people is a tenet of Islam, one of their Ten Commandments. The so called moderate Muslims are not direct partipants, but they supply the funding—this is the way organized crime rings work.

Where is the outrage from Saudi Arabia and their fabulous new anti terrorist center? It’s only been a few days since Trump was there and They Lied to him. Where is the outrage from the whole Muslim world? Trump got played.

We’re invited to participate in a special party for elimination of ISIS, very soon.

Ragga will be taken.
