A young mother pushed her 2-year-old son down a flight of stairs in the Bronx while the boy was still strapped in his stroller, cops say.
The 22-year-old woman had gotten into an argument with the father of the boy before she shoved the child down the steps at the East 149th Street and Grand Concourse station in Melrose at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, according to police.
One witness, John Smith, said the woman, identified as Jessica Mixon, seemed distressed and said she no longer wanted the child.
The boy ended upside down at the bottom of the steps and two good Samaritans raced to help him and unstrapped him from the stroller, Smith said.
Smith said Mixon appeared to deliberately shove the child down the stairs, then he says she just stood against a wall steps away as her son screamed.
“The baby was screaming,” Smith said. “He busted his eye, and his nose was bleeding. Blood was coming out of his mouth and the back of his head was bleeding.”
The child was taken to Lincoln Hospital, where he was treated for a cut to his head and face, police said.
Mixon was taken to Bronx Lebanon Hospital, where she underwent a psych evaluation, according to officials. She was later arrested and charged with reckless endangerment and assault of a child.
It was not immediately clear if Mixon had an attorney who could comment on the charges.

Many areas of Brooklyn, via “Hipster” and Yuppie gentrification, have seen a major decrease in crime over the past couple decades. Seems more areas of the Bronx are still bad. I can’t stand the Starbucks types either, but at least they’ve cleaned up these places and made them safer. Not that many of the wusses would lift a finger to help someone getting mugged, but there are so many of them around at all hours of the night that the streets are definitely safer as a result.

This is a common movie scene because there is something seriously wrong with anyone who thinks this is okay.
