CANBERRA, Australia (AP) - A former U.S. intelligence official said Wednesday the Watergate scandal that brought down a president "pales" in comparison with allegations that President Donald Trump's election campaign colluded with Russians.
James Clapper, director of national intelligence until Trump took office in January, told Australia's National Press Club the cover-up of a 1972 burglary at the Democratic Party national headquarters in the Watergate complex in Washington that ended Richard Nixon's presidency "was a scary time."
But the allegations under multiple investigations of Russian meddling in last year's presidential election were more concerning, he said.
"I think (if) you compare the two that Watergate pales really in my view compared to what we're confronting now," Clapper said.

Didn’t read entire ‘story’ since, these days, I believe very little of what is said. But, I notice Clapper uses word ‘allegations’ since he hasn’t, to my knowledge, presented any factual evidence. Sadly, though, this is how they indoctrinate others. Another self centered bureaucrat.
Allegations. Repeated hypothesis with no basis in fact, and no corroborating evidence. And it keeps the narrative alive.
Russians did not hack the US elections. Trump did not solicit any assistance from ANY Russian national or representative of the Russian Federation.
However, there is a sneaking suspicion that the campaign of Herself, and several other Democrat candidates as well, WERE actively seeking both cash and other assistance from various foreign sources.
Yes, you noticed that Clapper used the word "allegation". He makes no mention of the words "evidence" or "proof".
Apparently Clapper is traveling around the world to take down our elected president, and he does it without a shred of evidence.
Seems to me that Clappers apparent actions are WORSE than any fake allegations against Trump.

There is no evidence and that is the problem for Clapper. He used fabricated evidence to present to FISA Court judges to fraudulently obtain writs to allow Obama Admin and Hillary Clinton operatives to spy on political opponents, especially Donald Trump
The goal was to make sure that Hillary won but she lost even with all help she got from government targeting of political opponents.
Now Clapper has justify his use of faked evidence to fool the FISA courts into allowing him to use NSA data collections to spy on the political opposition in an effort to stay out of jail.
Clapper is correct that this is worse than Watergate, but it is the Obama Administration, the DNC and the Hillary Clinton Campaign who are guilty, not the Russians
