A D.C. councilmember has proposed giving new titles to D.C.'s elected officials, to better reflect their roles running a government that functions as city, county and state. News4's Tom Sherwood reports.

WASHINGTON D.C. is not a state and should never be a state.
Using this logic....NY City, Philly, and even Tulsa...could also be renaming their officials as Governors. We could have 3,000 Governors running around...if the trend would hold.
The question on DC would then go to who would be the actual Mayor, and wouldn’t you need a whole cabinet group at the state level? Also, wouldn’t the Governor require special security and a special limo?
How many legs does a dog have if you call his tail a leg? Four. Saying that a tail is a leg doesn’t make it a leg.

How about “INMATE”?
That seems so much more appropriate.

17: To exercise exclusive Legislation in all Cases whatsoever, over such District (not exceeding ten Miles square) as may, by Cession of particular States, and the Acceptance of Congress, become the Seat of the Government of the United States,The DC City council's rule-making functions are expressly unconstitutional.
The District of Columbia is a federal district. It is not a city, not a county nor a state. No one should be called mayor, administrator would be a satisfying choice.
Bingo; DC can have no laws except those made by Congress.
Up until the 1973 "District of Columbia Self-Government and Governmental Reorganization Act", the President appointed the people who ran DC.
I think the solution to DC’s statehood movement is to let them vote for their own government, like a city (as they do now) while also being allowed to vote in the state and federal elections (including senate) of the states from which they were carved, Virginia and Maryland. It might hurt Virginia a little, though to add more Democrat voters than there already are to the voter rolls. Maybe give the whole thing to Maryland.
Note: the Virginia side of DC is called Arlington County, Virginia.
I've been saying for years that the Congress should retrocede the District, with the exception of the core government areas (e.g., on the west by 23d St NW, on the South by the SE-SW Freeway, on the East by 11th St NE/SE, and on the North by K St NW/NE), to Maryland.
Some years ago, Tennessee adopted “County Mayors.” I can’t remember what they were called before - I think they were “County Executives.”
Now, the city of Knoxville has a mayor, but then Knox County has a mayor also - a different mayor.
I suppose that’s the same idea in the opposite direction.
There are a handful of unified county governments - Lynchburg/Moore County; Hartsville/Trousdale County, and for most purposes, Nashville/Davidson County.
They can call their pretend mayor the Holy Roman Emperor, the whole circus could (and should) be ended by Congress reclaiming its proper authority tomorrow.
I lived in Arlington for 4 years and DC for 4 years. I’m familiar. I don’t know exactly which parts of DC were VA and which were MD, but you can probably guess based on which side of the river things fall on. But I’m fine with giving it all to Maryland, too.
