Turkish troops have crossed the border into Southern Kurdistan. Clashes that erupted upon the response of guerrillas continue.

Turkish troops moving in Çukurca district of Hakkari have crossed the border into Southern Kurdistan last night. During clashes that erupted upon the response of guerrillas, 14 soldiers have been killed. Clashes and Turkish airstrikes continue in several locations.

ANF reporters on the ground provided the following details:

Turkish fighter jets started to shell Çukurca borderline at 20:00 Friday evening. Turkish troops started to move and crossed the border following the aerial strikes. Heavy clashes erupted between guerrillas and Turkish soldiers that targeted Martyr Munzur, Small Cilo and Qela Bedewê areas.

Turkish soldiers entered a location where guerrillas had laid explosive traps before. Explosions and crossfire by guerrillas left 14 soldiers dead here. Guerrilla sources report that the number of soldiers killed here could be higher.

Military activity continues towards Biznê and Qela Bedewê areas in the same region. Turkish soldiers are trying to advance but cannot, due to the response and intervention of guerrilla forces.

Intense ground and aerial activity in the mentioned region continues.

This is not the first time Turkey has crossed the border, but they are applying heavy pressure and getting very heavy resistance.

Erdogan the Islamist is not happy with how the Middle East is divided over the Qatar and Turkish support of the Muslim Brotherhood and other issues.

I think this incident is in Iraq, just past the Turkish Border.

Am trying to pinpoint exactly the spot and think the time zones are about 8 hours ahead of my CDT in the US.

Turkey has a presence in Iraq, on pretense of helping eliminate ISIS. In my opinion, Turks never plan on leaving Iraq. Erdogan and Barzani (Kurd leader in Iraq) have had close business relationships. This will be a problem.

Thank you very much for the map. It is very confusing in the region where the 4 nations come together.

Kurds are in all 4 countries. There are other elements there with them. Very confusing.

We allowed an islamic terrorist state to be part of NATO. Turkey is using that shield to attack other states.

Russia would have taken out erogen by now.

Thanks for posting. You and I share an intense dislike of Erdogen. Brought a smile to me yesterday when I read his reaction to two of his thugs being charged yesterday.

Turkiye might well be using the general violence and confusion there to actually invade and conquer the Kurdish areas. Turkiye is a formal Ally of the USA which makes a proper response difficult. That relationship needs to be declared formally ended. If the US were to do that, it would make it would be a boost for the anti immigration/invasion parties in Europe.

Time to send an ambassador to Kurdistan. Where’s their capital?

The Kurds are a politically divided group. All groups want at least recognition, some want a completely independent nation. Turkey is taking lethal advantage of the Kurd’s political differences. This “modern battle” has been going on since at least the mid 1990s.

Hey Moderator, what’s up your butt?

Texas Fossil has taken the time and effort to post here with good news stories, 39 this month alone. He/she has used the Breaking News only once with the apartment fire in UK and Front Page once with this news story.

Totally correct.

Erdogan has nursed a connection with Barzani.

And at same time practiced long term Kurdish cultural genocide. At times even mass murder and the world ignores by and large.

There is no Kurdistan.

They live around a mountain in 4 nations.

Iraq Kurds will have an independence referendum election on September 25th.

Soon the war with ISIS in Syria will be over and we will see how the peace accord works out for Syrian Kurds.

Yes, we need to recognize them and help them.

I have very close friends among them.
