Something is fishy about USS Fitzgerald story we are getting from the media
americanthinker.com ^ | Thomas Lifson

Posted on 06/18/2017 7:22:25 AM PDT by RoosterRedux

We received an email from a Navy Mother that raises serious questions. We will redact her name, while the rumors (and that’s how they must be categorized for now) reported by her son aboard the Fitzgerald are checked out. Here is what she wrote to us:

My son is assigned to the USS Fitzgerald. I am unable to share his rate with you.

The information is short and not so sweet. The implications are disturbing.

The ship is registered in the Philippines. We do not know who the owner is. The container ship neither had its running lights or transponder on. That is an action taken willfully. Furthermore, for the container ship to strike with such accuracy is troublesome. Given what some have done with cars in Europe, what a feather in the cap it would be to sink a U.S. Navy warship. Think on that.

My son missed being washed out to sea by the blink of an eye. He was on his way to one of the berthing areas that was rammed.

*snip*

If there is any substance to this – that the ACX Crystal disabled protective systems and rammed the Fitzgerald at high speed aimed at crtical facilities (evident from the damage) –

PHOTOS

…we have to consider the possibility of an asymmetric warfare attack designed to disable missile defense of a carrier strike group, as North Korea demonstrates the ability to make exactly such attacks on a multibillion dollar warship carrying thousands of sailors.

Same thought I had. Tracking would have shone the transponder going off line.

Impossible it’s invisible without a transponder. Even the Raytheon on our old Grady White would show any vessel within its range. I’d assume modern military technology has to be way better than a late ‘90s recreational system.

I saw another track that had the collision where the Crystal’s last starboard turn is.
The Fitz was positioned going in the opposite direction.
The Crystal turned slightly to port as did the Fitz, crossing the bow of the Crystal.
It was as if the ships decided to pass starboard to starboard instead of protocol port to port.

Just guessing, without seeingg depth charts, etc I think the Crystal realized it was on the wrong track heading for trouble, backtracked looking for the shipping lane.

Even if the Crystal wanted to intentionally ram the Fitz, the Fitz should have been able to stay clear.

> Collision. Though I wouldn’t rule out collusion, especially if this was a hostile act. <

Yeah, both words might fit. If I were forced to bet, I’d bet that this was an accident. But I wouldn’t bet very much.

I do not know any details, but I would check for any leftover Rules of Engagement that would require no Radar emmissions close to certain coastlines, or EMCON execise. Or something that would make the freighter’s transponder the sole source of detection.

Bad rules of engagement seem to usually negate technological advantages quicker that any technological counter-developement.

The crew on the Fitz bridge blew it completely whether this was an attack or not.

Blew. It.

A little off topic but I saw a report several months ago that Japan has more destroyers in the Pacific than the U.S. Navy does.

"I’ll go with Capt. Johnny Walker was at the ship’s helm."

Or Capt. Morgan.

Maybe there was a confrontation between the two ships. Was Fitzgerald trying to stop the Crystal? I think they would have reported that, but maybe not.

Am I wrong, or wasn’t there another “accident” in this region involving a US warship just a few weeks ago?

Do you feel that way about the ship being rammed in the Suez canal too?

Well there was this odd ball story of a sailor hiding in a boiler room for a week.

Who is the captain of the ACX Crystal? Something like muhamhead?

No, that wasn’t it. It was a collision of some sort involving a ship. Maybe not with another ship, but I’m pretty sure it was a collision.

I can assure you that the Navy was tracking the ship. while in the Navy that was my son's assignment prior to discharge. The facilities he described for this purpose were very large and complex. What needs to be investigated is how the ship was lost and how it was never picked up prior to the collision.

If so, I’m guessing the captain would have sounded general quarters. Even the guys baking bread deep inside the ship would have been alerted. But nobody on the Fitzgerald seems to have been alerted.

My bro was a Captain at one time but of course spent many hours on watch. "Never trust a ship that's not USA flagged."

And like I said yesterday, one of my earliest thoughts was Ramming people in the Streets of Europe and ramming a ship have something in common.
