Used to be, back in the 70s, most Americans were thin and smoked cigarettes (I'll skip the cocaine aspect). Things were pretty good, but those cigarettes were killing everybody!
So, a lot of Americans stopped smoking. And they put on weight. Now we have a great many fat Americans. Things are pretty good, but the obesity is killing everybody!
It's always something.
In Hollyweird 90% of the time the perception is not the reality.
What a waste. Inherited mental problems and added to them with drugs. Everyday people FIGHT to stay healthy and alive and millionaires-who have the advantage of wealth- self destruct. All the doctors she must have had, her family, no one could tell she was abusing illegal drugs? No one could stop her? How could she even function normally with all that in her system? It must have been hell on the last SW movie to get her to say a cogent line. Probably why she had so few. 60 years old and still an addict. What a waste!!
So drugs (although the amount is not stated) sleep apnea, and the end of a long flight from London to LA did her in. The fact that she was in her 60s and not her 20s might also have been a factor.

No. You can’t stop an addict. Unless you incarcerate them in a drug free prison.
Since she made the claim I have no reason to not to believe her
She would have been dead long ago mixing drugs like this...thin but dead. And she talked openly about not doing heroin for that very reason.
I don’t believe her former claims.

I don’t know what to believe except that she wasn’t a junkie at this level from all the available evidence.
They can operate and go about pretty well even using dope all the time.
Dodd dated her when she was extremely young and had drug problems, and she wrote in her book about Ted Kennedy making all kinds of inappropriate sexual comments to her. Like asking her about having sex while on drugs, whether she was going to have sex with Dodd, etc. Both senators were a lot older than her at the time.

“So, having recently graduated completely healed and normal from my first stint in a rehab, and appearing in an almost perfectly respectable piece of work, I found myself driving from Baltimore to Washington, D.C., to have dinner with Chris Dodd, this senator who I knew virtually nothing about. Nor did Senator Dodd — like most people, then, now and always — have any idea who I was in the wide, wide world beyond this cute little actress who’d played Princess Leia.”
“Suddenly, Senator Kennedy, seated directly across from me, looked at me with his alert, aristocratic eyes and asked me a most surprising question. ‘So,’ he said, clearly amused, ‘do you think you’ll be having sex with Chris at the end of your date?’ ... To my left, Chris Dodd looked at me with an unusual grin hanging on his very flushed face.”
Her reply: “’Funnily enough, I won’t be having sex with Chris tonight,’ I said, my face composed and calm. ‘No, that probably won’t happen.’ People blinked. ‘Thanks for asking, though.’”
His retort: “’Would you have sex with Chris in a hot tub?’ Senator Kennedy asked me, perhaps as a way to say good night? ‘I’m no good in water,’ I told him.”

I didn’t find it now, but I think I picked up her book and she says Ted Kennedy went on to question her about having sex while on drugs. That’s what I recall.

Yes it is sad, but even a person with a healthy heart isn't going to live long with that kind of drug use.
People who know what they are doing can manage to balance the effect of one drug with the other on occasion for a while, the sedative taking the edge off the stimulant high, coming down from cocaine is unpleasant so you take more heroin etc Just be sure you know what you are getting and can handle and how much sleep you’re willing to miss out on. ;/ Which she obviously didn’t unless this was a covert attempt at suicide.
Chris Farley...River Phoenix...probably 10 or more celebs Philip Seymour Hoffman in his 40’s is about the oldest I know that has died from a speedball.
