Baltimore, Md. businesses filed a lawsuit against the city for failing to protect their property during the 2015 Freddie Gray riots.
Sixty plaintiffs joined the lawsuit alleging that the city and police department were inadequately prepared for the riots, leading to almost $13 million in damages to over 380 businesses, CBS Local Baltimore reported Thursday.
The City and other Defendants failed them when they adopted a policy of restraint and issued stand-down orders, caring more about the public perception that they feared would result with increased police presence than preventing what were clearly preventable riots, Peter K. Hwang, an attorney for the plaintiffs, said in a statement.

I will open anything in that hole
xlnt. The businesses in Ferguson should do the same or does insurance cover it?
“Baltimore, Md. businesses filed a lawsuit against the city for failing to protect their property during the 2015 Freddie Gray riots.”
It’s certainly a righteous lawsuit, but gov workers (including judges) tend to circle the wagons and stick together.
NONE of ‘em were ill prepared ... Every ONE of ‘em were scared .... at least the upper cadre were.
About time.
,
The bros needed “room to destroy.”
You didn’t expect the Mayor to let them destroy City Hall, did you?
When the cops aid and abet looting.... you are in Baltimore.
Has the mayor had civil suits against her personally, for giving them room to destroy? She may not have any assets, but some discomfort would be nice for her.
Sadly, between sovereign immunity and over a century of Supreme Court decisions stating that the police have NO duty to protect individuals outside of certain special relationships, this lawsuit is doomed.
For those that don’t know: The police have *no* legal duty to protect you, your family or your property. Zip. Zero. Nada. Zilch. Their legal responsibilities are limited to investigating crime, not stopping it.
Hope this one has legs.
Long past time the real agitators and enablers pay the price.
The City ... adopted a policy of restraint and issued stand-down order”
In other words, issued a “come and get it” invitation to the thugs and thugettes.
Good. The authorities deliberately prevented the police from doing what police do: protecting innocent people. Because of that, the street savages destroyed everything in their path, like the reptilian-brain individuals they are.
I remember during the Rodney King riots in LA, Korean business owners and workers took to their roofs with rifles and shotguns.
Baltimore is the home of Nancy Pelosi, now known as Nancy P. This city has been in the hands of democRATS for so many decades that most people alive today have only seen RAT rule in that city. Nancy P’s father was a RAT mayor of Baltimore and one of her brothers was also a RAT mayor from Baltimore. Another brother was a RAT congressman from Baltimore. Nancy P herself started her political career in Baltimore but moved to San Francisco shortly after becoming married. Her long and pathetic political career has been dedicated to continuing the RAT policies existing in Baltimore to her newer home in San Francisco and later pushing those same policies on all of across America. One more interesting piece of information about Baltimore and the effects of RAT policies. There was a report yesterday that many Baltimore schools, if not all, have zero students who can pass a basic proficiency test in the state of Maryland. With that said, it is without saying that the teachers unions in Baltimore enjoy among the highest pay, benefits, and job security to be found anywhere in the world.
Wonder of this will fall in with the “police have no duty to protect you” narrative.
Guess the police are just crime monitors....like the commercial...’there’s a crime’
"Due to their low social status and language barrier, Korean Americans received very little if any aid or protection from police authorities. David Joo, a manager of the gun store, said, "I want to make it clear that we didn't open fire first. At that time, four police cars were there. Somebody started to shoot at us. The LAPD ran away in half a second. I never saw such a fast escape."
The police have no duty to protect you.
Hopefully, the businesses will prevail and bankrupt Baltimore city.
