A Texas City commissioner was charged with two counts of intoxicated manslaughter with a vehicle early Monday morning after her pickup hit and killed two men standing on the side of the road near the Galveston Causeway. According to investigators, the driver charged with manslaughter was identified as Texas City Commissioner Dee Ann Haney, 54. Charging documents obtained from Galveston County reveal that police arrested Haney after she admitted she was under the influence of marijuana and admitted to smoking it before her crash.

...and admitted to smoking it before her crash...
Anyone wanna bet what her BAC will be?
Yeah, it’s probably hard for folks to remember how to protect themselves from the cops when they are drunk or stoned.
Maybe she can get some Libertarian expert witnesses to testify on her behalf at trial.
We drove by one of the MJ “dispensaries” in downtown Reno yesterday. Looked like the drive thru at In & Out Burger so many folks lined up to buy their legal ounce.
In before the “weed is manna” brigade.
I didn’t know pot was legal in Texas.
Are you saying it’s legal to drive under the influence now?
All I see, regarding this case, is this:
...
I see someone who recklessly killed two people, most likely.
Here’s what we know now:
“A magistrate judge set Haney’s bond at $100,000. As part of the conditions, Haney will have to install a breathalyzer in her vehicle. Additionally, she is not allowed into any place that serves primarily alcohol.” - http://abc13.com/news/texas-city-commissioner-held-after-deadly-crash/2176482/

GUILTY!
Non sequitur. Did legalizing alcohol affect people's driving abilities?
Nobody has the right to operate a motor vehicle when intoxicated, whether the substance in question is legal or not...
Probably true.
I don’t know enough about the case to comment on that aspect. Most people I’ve ever met have been reckless in one way or another.
I’d need to have more information to believe that the marijuana is what caused the accident. I’ve not touched the stuff since 1997, so I can’s speak from recent personal experience, but looking back, you had to be pretty danged stoned to be as dangerous as someone texting.
Yeah, I’d suspect alcohol was involved. Either that or texting...
Bottom line for those living, who plan on staying alive, when you exit your vehicle along the shoulder or side of a roadway, do not turn your back on traffic. Do not take your eyes off of approaching traffic. Neglecting to do this can kill you.
Best thing to do when having an issue while driving, if possible, always pull off the highway to a safe spot if possible. You are NOT safe when stopped along the side of a road/highway/freeway.
Journalism is pretty much dead here in America. Have to go to UK for American news.
She *has* to be a Democrat. What a great role model!
