Trump’s High-Stakes Tweeting
American Greatness ^ | 7-2-2017 | Victor Davis Hanson

Posted on 07/05/2017 6:16:15 AM PDT by Sir Napsalot

(excerpt)

We do not know whether there is a saturation point at which Trump’s base will tire of the occasional ad hominem crude tweets, but so far we clearly have not reached it. Why?

So far, for three reasons.

First, half the country despises the mainstream media and sees it as arrogant, corrupt, hypocritical, and in need of comeuppance. Trump is not running against a centrist populist Democrat like John Kennedy or Harry Truman, but a crude Resistance of foul mouths like Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez and U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), unhinged celebrities like Maher and Colbert, street theater, thuggery on campuses, and not very bright media talking heads imploding as they try to top their rivals’ hatred for Trump and what he represents.

Trump in this context is seen by his supporters as a fighter in a way no prior conservative president or presidential candidate since Reagan has been. The conservative base remembers the dark years of 2005-6 when the media and progressive activists smeared Bush daily—without riposte. They want no repeat of the McCain sanctimoniousness about not discussing the hate-filled career of the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, or the Romney Marquess of Queensberry rules campaign that was smeared and slurred with impunity by Obama. In the midst of the Morning Joe/Mika Brzezinski controversy, “At least he fights” was a commonly heard refrain from Trump supporters.

Two, conservatives favor Trump’s ongoing agenda on immigration, health care, tax, regulatory and national security reform. .......

The elite lying mediots, who control the NY Slimes, ABCNNBCBS, Faux, WSJ, Compost, and LaRaza Slimes fail to realize: President Trump does not need them to speak to his 62+ million voters/us.

Image size dimensions

He Tweets us, sends his contributors emails and controls the White House digital system. He bypasses the left wing mediots, when he communicates directly with us.

Again, neither President Trump, nor his 62+ million voters need, nor do we want the NY Slimes, BBC, ABCNNBCBS, Faux, the LaRaza/LA Slimes, WSJ, Compost, and LaRaza Times trying to tell us what our president is telling us. We know what he is saying without their twisting and word games. Free Republic is the best site for real news.

We don’t need the “old gotcha” press conferences. With the whining and lying liberal mediots attacking our president. We are tired of the mediots lying and telling us what to believe and how to vote! Ban them from the White House. Trump’s comments and statements are for his voters. We don’t need lying liberal mediots to tell us what he says to us. There is zero filtering, adjusting and lying to us when Trump talks to us directly!

Official Washington is being traumatized by the tweets of Donald Trump.

Trump speaking directly to the people via Twitter or the Whitehouse.com is causing a crisis among mediots, politicians, Never Trumpsters and lobbyists. They just don't know how to handle “Trump’s Twitter feed which traumatizes Washington and his enemies.

Finally, Free Republic is the best site for real news. Thanks for your past cont

The second reason:

“Two, conservatives favor Trump’s ongoing agenda on immigration, health care, tax, regulatory and national security reform. Note that Trump has not just appointed a good cabinet and agency team—at HHS, EPA, Defense, Justice, the United Nations, Homeland Security, State, National Security Council, CIA, Education, or Energy—but the most effective and talented conservative group since the Reagan years. And Trump is not just putting his finger in the crumbling conservative dike, but rebuilding it entirely. The appointment of Justice Neil Gorsuch, the vast reduction in illegal immigration, the steady restoration of deterrence abroad, the move against sanctuary cities, the energy renaissance, and the effort to get jobs back are real accomplishments; In comparison, Joe and Mika are less than fluff. “

The third reason:

“Finally, no one has calibrated quite the nation’s deep antipathy toward the coastal media-university-political-cultural nexus, most specifically its utter hypocrisy. Half the country sees not so much Democrats or progressives, but rather a bankrupt class whose venom for others is used to excuse their own exemptions from the ramifications of their own ideology. ...”

At the end of the article, VDH admitted that he had been advising Trump refrain from tweeting on most things except for more important stuff, and
"I have been mostly wrong about the downsides of his twitter invective for just as long, perhaps the president knows something I don’t."

This reminds me of the logic behind the Tet offensive in Vietnam years ago.

You have to bring them out into the open before you can kill them. That’s exactly what DJT did. They can’t hide behind innuendo and satirical humor any more. Blackmail and firings are visible.

CNN is pulling out the stops as a last hurrah before AT&T buys them.

The final paragraph of the article needs to be read 100 times a day by the likes of Krauthammer and Stephen Hayes as punishment for their incredible short-side analysis of Trump and, in particular, his Tweeting habits.

Here it is:

"I would urge the president to stop tweeting about nothings and to keep his powder dry for bigger game to come than Joe and Mika. But considering that I have been urging just such pruning of tweets as a matter of strategy for Trump for a long time and that I have been mostly wrong about the downsides of his twitter invective for just as long, perhaps the president knows something I don’t."

Some like Mr. Hanson, are starting to figure it out, or at least are humble enough to wonder if the man in the WH is smarter than they are. What is brilliant is that the tweets serve to divert attention from the President’s agenda, which is being worked on every day of the week to restore America. While his weak minded adversaries harp on his tweets he keeps charging ahead to transform America back to its greatness. Last week was a huge forward movement on immigration and energy. This week on to Poland and the G-20.

Not quite the metaphor, not since the Dubya’s first election totally unhinged them.

These “celebrities” are so comfortable with their own hubris that they are not really trying to hide or camouflage their own opinions as the universal truth. Nobody else in their circle have a different viewpoint.

They categorically dismiss the other half of the nation who disagree with them as nobody important.

I would urge the president to stop tweeting about nothings and to keep his powder dry for bigger game to come than Joe and Mika.

The author sort of appreciates the tweets but doesn't understand the process and it makes him uncomfortable. The Joe and Mika series, I think has to do with the need to keep the MSM screaming and waving their arms about tiddle while President Maga is busy accomplishing big things that MSM would otherwiseeffectively oppose were they not reducing themselves to irrelevance while NOT opposing substantial acts and policies that are anathema to Holy Progressivism..

Is it possible for FR to have a VDH only forum? Along with Stossel they are the two pieces of bedrock for principled informative thought provoking commentary.
