If he did have a serious intestinal wound that is a horrible thing to treat.

You have to exteriorize the intestines and repeatedly wash everything....a real horror show!

After you get all as clean as possible and make the repairs on the intestine you have to use your nose to try and find any leak (Yup, it’s gross)

Wash, suction, wash, suction, repair....sniff sniff sniff.

Word from his doctors at the time of the shooting was that the bullet fragmented causing a lot of internal damage to bones and soft tissue. I don't want to speculate or get gruesome, but it's easy to imagine the male body structure and organs in the pelvis, and to further imagine the probable injuries Rep. Scalise sustained. He is likely to have some permanent health issues for the rest of his life.
