At least they aren’t looking for ways to fleece the rural portion of the State. For once.

You don’t think the cost of those tolls, the ones incurred by businesses, will be passed along? Folks in rural areas will be paying, too.

I always found it odd that something that costs about $30,000 a foot to build is called a freeway.

Hey, those pensions aren’t going to pay themselves.

How will this work w/o massive bottlenecks at the north, south and I-84 entrances? What about in city interchanges? Congestion is already a problem, rushours will be gridlock. Personally, I only go to Portland to take flights out of PDX. Let Antifa take over the rest of the city as they already own downtown where traffic vs demonstrations/riots makes access very iffy.

No bottlenecks. Overhead cameras will take pictures of license plates. People with transponders will be billed monthly. People without transponders will receive a monthly bill in the mail with an extra fee because they didn't have a transponder. This method is in use in Florida and other states.
This was predicted by an OF (Original FReeper) in an article from 2005.

How will this work w/o massive bottlenecks They'll undoutedly implement an IPass/EZPass type system, as other states have done. The transponders work at freeway speeds, so traffic doesn't even have to slow down.

States can put tolls in interstates? I didn’t know that...

There was a change to federal law about a decade ago that permits this.

Oregon does not have a sales tax, so they got to get money from somewhere. Personally I would prefer raising gas tax to pay for roads.

Is there any precedent for a state to charge tolls for a federal interstate that was not initially a state turnpike? If this flies, expect the whole interstate system to be on the counter for every state to exploit.
To: Twotone
Where do they get the right to impose a toll on a federal highway?

Interesting (in an entirely disgusting way).
I suppose that I could detour through Longview and take I-30 to Portland from now on.

The Beatles sung it well:
If you drive a car, I’ll tax the street
If you try to sit, I’ll tax your seat
If you get too cold I’ll tax the heat
If you take a walk, I’ll tax your feet
