The St. Louis Cardinals and Fox Sports Midwest have made it a yearly tradition to honor veterans with Military Appreciation Night at Busch Stadium and their This One’s For You telecast. This year was no different, and it provided several memorable moments for veterans who served and their families.

Among those moments was a ceremonial first pitch that’s impossible not to get emotional watching. Clarence Adelhardt, a 99-year-old veteran of World War II and longtime Cardinals fans, was called upon to deliver the pitch, and did so with incredible spirit as the crowd showered him with their appreciation.

The first pitch from 99 year old Clarence Adelhardt in a wheelchair was better than Obozo's.

They have a Vet raise the American flag during the Anthem at every game at Target Field.

I first misread it as “throws the first punch”.

Even if his pitch only got half way to the catcher it would have been better.Mr Adelhardt deserves the admiration of the entire nation and has earned its gratitude.

Obozo will be worth $50 million in a few years because he's half black,he read Rules For Radicals and he knows Bill Ayers.

Very little that I see on the web makes me happy. This video makes me happy - and a little sad.

I assume that those three women around him are his daughters. If nothing else, they gave their dad something and got themselves a great memory.

Good job to the Cardinals, the fans in the stadium and whoever made this happen.

Though I have to say even at 99 I would be pissed about the toss. “Give it back damn it. I’m not leaving til it gets there”

That was great. What a ‘bucket-list” item that had to be for him.

GOD bless Clarence Adelhardt, American Hero.

My parents were both WWII Veterans. They taught us to love GOD, Country & Family.

I keep telling my oldest (a Cubs fan, of all things!) and my son-in-law (an A’s fan) that they should come out of the darkness, embrace the light, and become fans of America’s team... the St. Louis Cardinals.

Proof that there aren’t ghosts is that my grandmother isn’t haunting my son for being a Cubs fan. Where did I go wrong? ;-)

There are, as the limits of time inevitably demand, fewer and fewer of these great American heroes left. If only all of them could be honored in a similar fashion.
