Wednesday on CNNs New Day, Rep. Steve King (R-IA) was asked by show co-host Alisyn Camerota if he was comfortable holding up funding for the federal government if it did not include money for the border wall.
King said that he was, but suggested taking it a step further by adding money earmarked for food stamps and Planned Parenthood to fund the wall.
Partial transcript as follows:
CAMEROTA: And its $1.6 billion. I mean, thats what might be holding up, you know, the funding for the government. But are you comfortable, Congressman, with providing $1.6 billion of taxpayer money, not from Mexico, to build that wall?
KING: Absolutely yes, and more, and Id throw another $5 billion on the pile and I would find a half of a billion dollars of that right out of Planned Parenthoods budget. And the rest of it could come out of food stamps and the entitlements that are being spread out for people that havent worked in three generations.
Weve got to put America back to work. This administration will do it. And weve got to let weve got to free them up so that they can and support the right agenda for this country.
CAMEROTA: You want to take food from people who are the people who are on the lowest rung in terms of the nations safety net, and their children in terms of food stamps, youre happy to take youre willing to take money from them to build the $1.6 or to give the $1.6 billion for the border wall?

That’s a great idea. I’ve been saying ever since Trump first suggested his wall that it would be expensive and we need to find the money elsewhere in the budget to avoid going deeper in debt. Ditto the infrastructure plan.
Fortunately, there are plenty of places in the budget where we can go to get it.
But then, i’m somewhat of a radical. I have 9 Federal departments I’d like to close.
You mean people will starve?
Steve King represents rural Iowa. He knows the ‘Farm Bill’ and that it is mostly food stamps. And he knows the details of where and on what that food stamp money is spent. Junk food from convenience stores is not the intent of ‘helping the poor’. King knows it, and Camerota does too. She just lies to score political points with her ignorant audience.
Why not use useless expenditures like foreign aid and UN contributions as well?
Could not stand her at FOX, as she is an elitist , snobby, egotistical , brain dead fool.
[ Why not use useless expenditures like foreign aid and UN contributions as well? ]
Mexico OWES our hospitals several years worth of foreign aid...
so you want people to lose jobs, healthcare, starve, and then die off!!!
SARC.
That is the sort of crap the left always pushes , and what they learn from their collages, and public education.
cut off the arts programs too.
Stop fed money from going to Sanctuary Cities and use that to build the wall.
Also, stop any fed $’s to illegals and use that money to build the wall.
This is a joke. Our government wastes billions every year.
That is all this Republican controlled congress seems capable of doing, is talking a good game.
I've been saying that for many, many years. Stop all foreign aid unless it proves a direct benefit of value to the U.S. equal to or greater than the expenditure.
And U.S out of U.N.; U.N. out of U.S., NOW!
Have soe balls Rep. King and come right out and say it Like I have for many years.
I HATE THE POOR !!!
It costs us 538 billion annually to support illegals. 20 billion to build the wall.
George W. Bush dumped a cool fifteen billion dollars (and more) to somewhere in Africa to fight AIDS and no one bats an eye, but building a wall to protect Americans...
$538 billion? Wow! Do you have a source for that?
They're worried their trough will be emptied, as well.
