Chicago is now notorious for the murder rate it suffers, vastly out of proportion to its population when compared to New York or Los Angeles. That horrendous carnage largely is confined to a couple of locations where rival gangs are battling over control of turf for drug deals. But what of the rest of the city?
There are signs that the fragile bonds that keep people functioning in society without routine resort to violence are fraying in Chicago. There is an invisible line looming ahead, the one where people no longer assume that they can rely on the police and courts to assure them of personal safety in their daily lives, and so must resort to defensive measures, or else suffer as victims.

Chicago could become the next Detroit - it will just take longer to turn into a giany ghetto because of its size.
Post “Gun Free Zone” signs in the hoods. That’ll take care of it.

I was last in Chicago in 2000 and the downtown and museums/art museums were wonderful. It was fun. However there were no go areas then and much of the city had its dangers.
If the cops gave out all the confiscated drugs free, would that help stop drug deals? Massive overdoses would go a long way to solving many problems.

I worked in Chicago for quite a while. I still have fond memories of my time there.
It's is a shame to see our great cities, both large and small being degraded and destroyed by misguided liberal politics.
But that is what has been going on for over 50 years.

Used to take AMTRAK (Empire Builder from Seattle) to Chicago to visit relatives. Nice walk to the museums and then there’s that famous cafe where Hwy66 starts. Last time I was at the station the 0bama store was closed; operated a year.
Chicago may be reaching the point that the US military units trained in urban warfare may have to start patrolling the streets.

It's the new normal and just something we will have to get used to.
Yep...vote Democrat and destroy the great American nation, as the Democrats led by Obama & company have destroyed Chicago and killed many innocent Black folk, including children and unborn babies with unabated street violence and murder. Sad commentary on Obama, Clinton, Sanders, the entire Democrat “Hate America & African-Americans” Party, as does Obama, the Congressional Black Caucus and the NAACP.
