Supernaturally -- well, it takes supernatural grace to love your enemies. Nobody does that naturally, and nobody even wants to.
The fact that Jesus actually commanded us to love our enemies is, to me, proof of His divinity: almost a much as His rising from the dead.
It's evident that this went on for 40 years without anybody effectively blowing the whistle. Not the boys, not their parents, not anybody.
I have never understood this ,even in myself: that is to say, I have endured some episodes of abusive/exploitative harm in my younger years, which I never told anybody about. Why? I don't know.I am baffled, myself. But it seems to be typical.
That's why abominable things go on: this incredible passive acceptance.
And abusers are notoriously successful deceivers. It's second nature to them: leading a double life. Jesus spoke about this: the whitewashed sepulchres, gleaming and spotless on the outside, inside full of filth.
Nobody suspects --- a decent, wholesome person does not suspect such things, it never enters their minds --- unless they see it personally.
I find it credible that nobody ever told Fr. Georg.
There’s plenty of information about queers in public schools and sports teams and just about any place children can be found. For some reason no one’s as interested.
I suspect this is mostly an attempt to dismantle another small facet of German cultural identity. Don’t care much for that particular music, but I gather they have been popular for ages.
Strict discipline then morphs into ‘torture’...don’t know how much actual sexual abuse happened. Hard to prove after decades. Not trying to look for excuses, just saying the real motive may be that stated above.
I'm not for whitewashing anything: let the investigations proceed with the utmost rigor. If perps can be found whose guilt is clear, give them be tried, sentenced and punished, and give it to them good and hard.
But this idea of "First the moral posturing, then the evidence" really lacks justice.
I hope a Christian wouldn’t make a 1,000 year libel out of a recent investigation. A Christian would be more interested in exact justice than in full-outhouse-bucket sliming.
So I’m assuming you’re mocking / parodying the general tendency to slander, and you forgot your /s/
Thank you for doing the moral math.
Reading through, I think your comments show a great deal of thoughtfulness. It’s always good to see you on the thread.
Catholic outreach?
I had Jewish friends in the Scouts. We Catholics hung out with them when the Protestants went off to "non-denominational" services. During those times we shared info about our respective religions with each other, so that's where I learned about Jewish traditions. Or is that TRADITIONS!
Thank you for injecting clarity into this conversation.
2) As for corporal punishment vs something more sadistic again there was no differentiation although the article did quantify slapping vs something that would leave a bruise.
3) The article did not mention the changes in culture over time (60 years) where some corporal punishment was accepted even expected then eventually phased out. Also throughout that time period there was peer on peer physical contact called hazing.
4) Requantifying you data on sexual abuse the ratio of alleged abusers is 9 of 49 which is, to me, more significiant that 1 incident per year. It indicates serial abuse by the 9, what we would now categorize as predators.
4) Can it be a hatchet job? Sure, particularly when a key player is the brother of the pope. That does make for sensational news.
Oops some genius-chump may have read the article after all and did not draw the same conclusions that you did.
Thanks, but you’ve merely re-presented the points I’ve already made. Which you couldn’t be bothered to notice till I called bs.
The homosexual left will tell us that this isn’t an instance of homosexuality, but of “pedophilia.” They always tell us that, even though the chosen sex of the molester is male.
Has anyone noticed that Anita Bryant has been completely exonerated?
Abuse is abuse.
Good to know you defend the abuse of children by your “church”.
Pwned... (LOL)
Right. Because spanking = pedophilia. Next time, read the article and you won’t fall for fake news. Unless you want to.
Seems there’s a confession from Benedict’s brother back in 2010.
