had no knowledge of sexual abuse, “one can accuse him of looking the other way
I have heard ignorance of the law is no excuse, first time I have heard if you have no knowledge of a crime then you can be accused of something
I “think” this means, if he got reports, God wanted him to investigate rather than saying, hey, this is the Church, therefore things are automatically copacetic because we are entitled to view ourselves that way.
Surface Christianity is a problem in all parts of Christendom.
But again. If those he had delegated to investigate were blind, they wouldn’t find a problem.
I think God is endeavoring to teach the small-c church not to take its own status for granted. It’s so easy to go on a pride trip from the wonderful things that often happen in it, then whoooooops! Back to picking oneself off the pavement.
And, at least as far as I have known, I think I know what I’m talking about. Christian stumbling. Doesn’t mean you’re unsaved. Does mean you’re backsliding and that evils will show themselves and that God will chastise.
The readiness to slime innocent people with moral defamation tells us more about the defamer than the defamed.
