Snopes, the fact-checking website that once focused on debunking flimsy internet rumors but has expanded into a 16-person operation that calls out political leaders for dishonesty, is locked in a legal battle that it says has drained the money it needs to survive.
The site, which gets all of its revenue from advertising, created a crowdfunding page on Monday, seeking $500,000 from readers to remain operational indefinitely. It says that Proper Media, the vendor that runs its advertising services, has withheld the sites revenue and has refused to relinquish control of the site. That leaves Bardav the company that owns and operates Snopes with no way of moving the site to a new host or installing its own ads, said David Mikkelson, a founder of the site.

Snopes: Where CNN goes to confirm the veracity of their rumors
They own their failure.
This has been debunked on snopes.
Definitely does not correct errors in their reporting with regard to conservative news. Bias reporting slanted toward liberal views. Not my go to for “the truth”. I tried it out in earlier years because people were sending me Snopes links in their e-mails to me.
I’m sure the liberal scallywags will fund it without blinking an eye.
What we really need is a snopes for snopes.
Nopes to Snopes.
From Dec, 2016
Facebook has announced plans to check for ‘fake news’ using a series of organizations to assess whether stories are true
One of them is a website called Snopes.com which claims to be one of the web’s ‘essential resources’ and ‘painstaking, scholarly and reliable’
It was founded by husband-and-wife Barbara and David Mikkelson, who used a letterhead claiming they were a non-existent society to start their research
Now they are divorced - with Barbara claiming in legal documents he embezzled $98,000 of company money and spent it on ‘himself and prostitutes’
In a lengthy and bitter legal dispute he is claiming to be underpaid and demanding ‘industry standard’ or at least $360,000 a year
The two also dispute what are basic facts of their case - despite Snopes.com saying its ‘ownership’ is committed to ‘accuracy and impartiality’
Snopes.com founder David Mikkelson’s new wife Elyssa Young is employed by the website as an administrator
She has worked as an escort and porn actress and despite claims website is non-political ran as a Libertarian for Congress on a ‘Dump Bush’ platform
Its main ‘fact checker’ is Kimberly LaCapria, whose blog ‘ViceVixen’ says she is in touch with her ‘domme side’ and has posted on Snopes.com while smoking pot
Jeez, the DNC is flat out of money, too bad.
Fakebook was using them to factcheck news. They weren’t seeing any of Zuckerschmuck’s billions?
Good riddance. Die, Snopes.
Venezuela, Cuba, and North Korea are broke too.
After they fail, they can lie and say that they are still in business and still lying for liberal $’s!
The pussy cat standing on top of the couch is the only honorable member of the team.
