John McCain is no one's hero anymore
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | July 25, 2017 | Mark Morford

Posted on 07/26/2017 6:09:08 AM PDT by artichokegrower

It was, as one Twitter pundit put it, a very good day for cancer.

It was a good day for death, a good day for shameless cruelty, for the worst tendencies of the human animal; it's a good day to have that sickening, sour feeling in your stomach turn to abject disgust at your fellow man – Republicans very much in particular – as the Senate GOP, with coward John McCain’s help, shoved through a motion that will allow them to continue to destroy lives, take away the health care of millions and leave countless thousands to die.

hereby returning from his government-paid sickbed, where he is receiving hundreds of thousands, if not millions of dollars’ worth of insurance-funded surgery and brain cancer treatments

So you would deny a veteran his benefits?

The LGBTQ community that Mr. Morford speaks for has its own special medical costs.

Life time AIDS treatment for one patient - $500,000

Treatment for Hepatitis C - $1,000 per pill taken once a day for 24 weeks.

Sorry Mr. Morford but a veteran like McCain earned his medical care.

Did he receive his treatment at a VA hospital?

and leave countless thousands to die.

Somewhere there has got to be statistics showing how many people died before and after Obamacare was enacted.

“Did he receive his treatment at a VA hospital?”

He went to the Mayo Clinic and they accept Tricare.

Thanks for the info. Is that an option that is available to all veterans?

No, he didn’t. You can bet your ass that McCain’s medical treatments have nothing to do with either the VA or Obamacare, the latter from which he and his fellow members of Congress dutifully exempted themselves.

This was surely no “hyper literate” commentary. Totally ignores the fact that a whole generation of young, productive adults have no healthcare at all because they can't afford the sky-high premiums and deductibles, and eat, shower and get to work at the same time. Throw into that mix the fact that it's so difficult to find a provider who will take Obamacare, and you realized that millions were thrown out of the system by the Democrats. Wait, oh, only the white millions, the ones with working level jobs or college loans, so who cares, I guess. The Republicans need to get their heads out of their a$$es and do something about this. I would start with tort reform and the repeal of a lot of the HIPPA regulation provisions, which are way over the top and add billions of dollars in expense. Then roll back a lot of the guidelines that hospitals have to abide by in order to become accredited, which have also become unrealistic and horribly expensive. Let them get back to practicing medicine, and the doctors too. Right now they are pots of treasure for the insurance and software companies.

Okay. I'm confused.

Forgive me, but we've been camping for the last week so I've been in somewhat of a news blackout. I'd heard something about McCain having some sort of routine procedure the day before we left so I'm just now getting caught up.

I thought somebody said something about Veterans like McCain deserving the medical care they receive so I just assumed he received his care at a VA hospital.

Barry Obama’s buttboy Jonathan Gruber, architect of obamashitcare in 2014:

“Lack of transparency is a huge political advantage. And basically, call it the stupidity of the American voter or whatever, but basically that was really really critical to get for the thing to pass. Look, I wish Mark was right that we could make it all transparent, but I’d rather have this law than not.”

take away the health care of millions and leave countless thousands to die.

Such hyperbole. I run into people all the time, either in real life or on medical forums where I sometimes visit. There's always some lament about someone getting sick and "not having insurance..." How can this be, I wonder? I thought everyone was now taken care of, now that this wondrous Obamacare has been enacted...how can it possibly be that people are somehow still alive, but do not have insurance through Obamacare?

Is that old poofter, Morford, still alive?

I thought he’d have been gone long ago.

"John McCain is no one's hero anymore"

We learned just a little while ago that this isn't true: Chucky Schumer thinks he's a great guy...

McCain has brain cancer. A type that is incurable and if his progresses like 90% of those who get this form, he will be dead in no more that a year.

Ah. Okay. I'm still trying to figure out how the whole Veteran's thing plays into the equation. Is this the type of immediate attention that is available to all veterans and only veterans?

It seems like there is some suggestion that McCain received preferential treatment based on his status as a veteran.

Nothing against veterans, but why wouldn't a non-veteran be entitled to such care? Are we less human than McCain?

I don’t quibble with the assertion that veterans - including McCain - deserve medical care; I spent 20 years in the Army myself. I can tell you that US senators do NOT go to VA hospitals for care. Their concern for veterans and their medical care is like their support for the repeal of Obamacare, i.e., for public consumption only and primarily at election time.

Nor do I. I hope that's not the sentiment I conveyed. I'm somewhat troubled by the suggestion that veterans deserve better care than non-veterans.

If McCain hadn't been a vet, would those same people say, "Sorry, Charlie. Doctor says you gonna die. Shoulda been a veteran. Sucks to be you."?

Congress is not exempt from Obamacare. It was mandated they get their insurance from the exchanges. However the Washington DC exchange has a bunch of different gold plans for them to choose from and they still get on average 72% of their coverage paid for by the taxpayers since Congress was declared a small business. Yes, it was sleight of hand but I get tired of the misinformation that they were exempted. They were not.
