Walmart Inc. (WMT) met with government and business leaders in Washington on Wednesday to unveil a plan to spur growth in domestic manufacturing efforts that company executives say will create an estimated 1.5 million new jobs in the United States.
The meeting included a discussion with key individuals on both sides of the aisle about the biggest challenges the U.S. manufacturing sector currently faces. Using an analysis by the Boston Consulting Group and Walmart sourcing data, the company crafted a 10-point plan to recapture an estimated $300 billion in imported consumer goods, stoking job growth in the process.
As weve worked over the last four years alongside our suppliers toward our goal to source an additional $250 billion in products that support American jobs, weve learned a great deal about the challenges our suppliers face in domestic manufacturing, said Cindi Marsiglio, Walmart vice president for U.S. Sourcing and Manufacturing. The good news is weve also learned how to overcome the challenges and, because of our experience, Walmart is uniquely positioned to help facilitate broad engagement in accelerating the expansion of U.S. manufacturing.

More jobs in America..more money for Walmart
Sam Walton was a big made in America guy many years ago..
Just think of all that money currently flowing out of the country!
Winning...for Americans who want a job!
Trump effect. Good news.
Ping!

HILLARY CLINTON was on WALMART’S board of directors from 1986 - 1992, about the time they changed their “Made in the “U.S.A.” to “Made in the U.N.”
AUTOMATION is the only way they can compete. From the initial design stage all the way to production, packaging and logistics.
Yeah. So how are they going to do it?
Chinese make crap for those that want crap
Chinese does not mean crap if the buyer has a brain
This story is a little skimpy on the details, ain’t it?
I know I’m in the distinct minority here, but do we really want to build $14 toasters in the US?
What about them getting into the health care business?

Even in the most automated plants there are plenty of good paying jobs . . . quality control, tool maintenance, etc.
More stuff made in America instead of China. Remember when it used to be “Made in Japan” a few years back?
I recall lengthy periods of:
Made in Japan
Made in Taiwan
Made in {South} Korea
Several years ago, I went shopping at Walmart and Dollar General. Of the 10 items I purchased, (IIRC) 4 were made in the US, 1 was made in Costa Rick, 1 in Indonesia, and 4 in China.
A lot of jobs went overseas ..
because of the EPA and the Unions
Yup, that was paying for China's infrastructure, military, and space program, and all we got out of it was saving $.10 on a paint brush. Now that money will be paying into our infrastructure, military, and space program, and allowing hard working Americans to earn a living again. Win-win.
And no, I'm not tired of it.
Here’s the original article that GP ripped off:
I encourage everyone to read the original and not click on GP, which publishes almost nothing that they haven’t ripped off from another source.
Thank you, yes, this is the story the thread should have been based on.
And didn’t we just hear that the Trump admin was looking for suggestions from any Americans as to what regulations should be chucked? It sounds like Walmart has been making a study of that matter and probably has a few thousand ready to offer up.
