The two real losers here are Greece and Italy. Germany, not so much.
The Dublin Agreement, which has been in place for 25 years....is the sole agreement which details the simple rule...where you land in Europe, is where you must assimilate and register yourself.
These 200,000 migrants picked up in the Med and delivered to an Italian island are going to be permanent Italian guests now. The idea that Italy and the EU headquarters can force them to other EU member states? That’s mostly gone.
If you look at benefit packages of the 28 EU countries....Germany was the only five-star deal. I don’t think you will find a single migrant or immigrant in Germany who really wants to haul off or move to another EU country. Even on the job topic....Germany has the most job potential of any EU country right now....so it makes sense to stay.
There’s a whole fleet of NGO boats picking up rapefugees from rickety boats off of Libya and dumping them in Italy.
So far Italy has let them do that because most of the invaders wanted to go to northern Europe. Italy was just a bridge.
It’ll be interesting to see what Italy does now. Sinking an NGO boat might send the right message.
