Remember this? The media was drooling over Obama when he and Oprah tried to sell Chicago to the IOC? The moment it was announced that the FIRST city to be REJECTED was Chicago was comedy gold. The CNN anchor couldn't believe the little tin god failed:

Remember the months of build-up to the selection, the breathless anticipation of how Obama would win, the slavering?

Then this announcement quietly pops up out of nowhere.

Remember? WE lived it. DRUDGE headlines that day:
“The EGO has landed”

The beginning of our nation’s nightmare which was BO’B.

Thank God and greyhound the boy king is out of office. Still standing, not gone as yet, but with no title other than ‘former’ or ‘Ex’

The difference is that when Obama was trying to get Chicago the Olympics it was all about him.

Everything that The Won ever did was all about him.

Remember that having the Olympics in your city or country is a poor investment?

It is a terrible investment. A few crony capitalists will make out like bandits and the city will be left holding the bag.

What a waste
Olympics are all HYPE
Those athletes compete against each other all the time

I’m happy about the “win” but the fact is nobody else wanted it. And they gave 2024 (when Trump will still be in office) to Paris.

It's my understanding that at least in the long term hosting the Olympics turns out to be a disaster for a city.

Obama carted a passel of people in 2008 to exert pressure on the Olympic Committee. Didn't work.

Along for the ride----Michelle and Oprah---in one of her fat phases.

Wonder what will be competing in 2028? Women that were born men and genetically and physically altered into asexual humanoids? Will athletes be grown in labs? What would be the point?

I was amazed when I heard the news this morning. First thing: “Traffic will be horrible!” I lived in L.A. in the summer of 1984. The streets were never more navigable than that summer. Traffic was a breeze. But, I’m sure the MSM won’t let facts get it the way of a good story.

>>Remember that having the Olympics in your city or country is a poor investment?<<

L.A. made money in 1984.

Maybe they can do it again. L.A. has a lot of problems but I had to admit we did a great job with the Olympics.

The biggest concern was the reuse of existing venues, the long distances between venues and of course the traffic.

It ended up being the lightest traffic weeks I had ever seen, before or since, and no one seemed to mind the distances or old facilities like the Coliseum (which was built for the 1932 Olympics, interestingly enough).

L.A. I think was the only place where they didn’t shovel billions into new venues that end up going to waste (Rio’s sites are already crumbling from disuse and disrepair).

I am optimistic for their chances of succeeding.
