The difference is the government wasn’t doling out rations, it was limiting how much you could buy. You would need a coupon to be allowed to buy a pound of butter, for example.
Good start but it is absolutely staggering to read that there are 41.5 MILLION people on food stamps. That is simply mind boggling. The Founding Fathers are spinning in their graves.
Big lie. Momma is getting Earned Income Credit and Child Tax Credit or did for years to the tune of thousands per year due to supposedly low income. She’s “got” more than food stamps. The media is NOT doing its job to investigate all of the fraud which is billions of dollars PER year. Rationing worked like this. Each person got a book of “stamps” of different colors with letters and numbers on them. You were only allowed to buy so much, say, flour per month. So, this week to buy flour you had to present the right number of “E-7” stamps for your purchase. The number/letter combination would change so you couldn’t save the stamps and make a big purchase.
The clerk was supposed to see you tear the stamps out of your book, which had your name and address on it. You bought the flour with regular money, not the stamps, but you had to have the stamps to get the rationed items.
