Charlottesville is the kind of America that identity politics is calling into being. It’s time for straight talk about that.
On the Right, the story is fairly straightforward. Neo-Nazis, white nationalists, and their ilk have to be condemned in no uncertain terms, and marginalized. The president’s coy rhetoric, dancing around these people for fear of alienating them, has to end. (I don’t expect it to end, but others on the Right need to speak up to condemn him.)
It is not enough for conservative politicians and thought leaders to condemn these incidents. In their rhetoric, they need to start criticizing the principles of identity politics, across the board. They should emphasize what unites us as Americans. And this: pastors and other leaders within the church have to start teaching clearly and directly on this front. More than that, they have to recognize that racial tribalism is a strong god — a false one, but a strong one. The mild, therapeutic God that they preach, teach, and proclaim is weak in the face of it. Don’t misunderstand: I’m not talking about the actual God of the Bible. I’m talking about the way our priests, pastors, religious teachers, and families present Him to their flocks — especially their young men.

It has been created by American abandonment of God, however, our government has joined hands to usher its use in, in order to bring Totalitarianism in.
Except for the USA, the West is destroyed. Our nation is the last tradition standing, set to be overtaken.

The left is built on identity politics. This will never happen.
The Left have gotten really comfortable bullying Whites, Conservatives, Christians, and Patriots.
When Obama was in office it was made patently clear that he would use the government to endorse that bullying.

Seems like Dreher is a practitioner of leftist doublespeak to me. Trump has condemned the radical rightists repeatedly. He hasn't "danced around" them at all. Trump just hasn't expressed the kind of faked outrage that the rest of the leftists, media, and the politically correct have.
What the leftists, and anti-free speech types want is for radical rightists to be denied the right to free speech. Some, like Senator Rubio have gone so far as to say violence against people expressing those unpopular ideas is acceptable.
But we either have free speech or we don't. Preserving the fundamental right of free speech is much more important than the annoyance of having to occasionally listen to someone spout stupid, repugnant ideas. If the radical left had just ignored the radical rightists in Charlottesville, then they would have had their march, a few people would have heard them, and it would have been over.
The violence never would have happened if the radical leftists hadn't decided to violently counter protest. And a young woman, who probably didn't support violence from either side wouldn't have lost her life.
Attacking Trump's statements based on false representations of what he said isn't something to admire.

When you punish white males because you made up “crimes” they do not commit, you just piss them off.
It has NOTHING to do with white supremicism, white nationalism or racism or nazism nor any of the myriad other labels you are trying to use.

Well, when their whole world view is built on the notion of putting people into categories, how smart do you have to be to realize there will inevitably be a box called “white males”? or “white females” for that matter.

Yes - it’s impossible to disarm the right-wing white nationalists (who i don’t consider to be conservative in any meaningful sense of the word), when doing so is going to feel like unilateral disarmament to them in the face of organized identity politics on the left.
I stopped reading the article when the author said we should condemn Trump. Not happening in my little corner of the world where everyone supports him.
I’m a white, straight, conservative female, raised Roman Catholic with traditional values, and they have declared war on me too.
