Scott Adams explains TDS: ‘How to know if you’re in a mass hysteria bubble’
American Thinker.com ^ | August 18, 2017 | Thomas Lifson

Scott Adams, the creator of Dilbert and the pundit who best explained and predicted the Trump victory last year, diagnoses Trump Derangement Syndrome as a manifestation of the historical phenomenon of mass hysterias. As usual, there is a lot to chew on, and Adams adds his master persuader perspective to the question.

Along the way, he covers the role of cognitive dissonance in the process of creating and reinforcing the the fantasy bubble. This phenoemnon in its current manifestation was noted by Patricia McCarthy today:

Trump's press conference on Tuesday made the left's heads explode. Why? Because everything he said was absolutely true. He does not play by their tyrannical PC rules. He said what was true and that room full of puerile reporters shouting insults at him could not handle the truth. They want what they want to be true but it just is not.

Why post American Thinker when you can post the original?

Have Varney and Gingrich also fallen into the mass hysteria bubble?

I notice both of them are wavering this morning.

They want what they want to be true but it just is not.

How true.

All of this, and more, laid out in quite eloquently in the classic volume Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds (Charles Mackay, 1841).

Check out Craig'sList - liberal elite thugs are hiring people around the country to pretend there's a big 'movement'...

Corrupt liberal 'elites' have decided THEY should make the call on who runs the country - and predictably enough they have chosen themselves as the people who must take up the mantle. The 'mobs' are hired to give the optics the country agrees with them. Hitler used the same tactics in the early years before he took over power.

'Duly elected' doesn't matter to the 'elites' ... Liberal elites and some Conservative elites want to steal the power of the people.

There's no country run by self appointed 'elites' that hasn't devolved into a hellhole. Coups by 'elites' don't work. The justification that they are bravely standing up to about 4,000 people in the country stupid enough to be 'Nazis or KKK' members - when those groups are TOTALLY POWERLESS IN OUR TIME - IS NUTS.

The time when those groups - Nazis and the KKK - were at their most evil was when THEY WERE THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THEIR TIME.

If five people walk up to me and tell me they are "Stalinists" - I'm NOT going to freak out thinking they're the same as the group that starved over seven million people to death. WHEN STALINISTS DID THEIR EVIL THEY WERE THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THEIR TIME.

Our liberal establishment is using mentally ill losers who self identify in our time as KKK and Nazi as an excuse to do evil to our county. Hitler used Jews to gather the mob to his side... Jim Crow Southerns used Emmitt Til and others like him... and OUR CORRUPT ELITES are using mentally ill idiots self identifying a hate group members from the past.

Corrupt Elites are the people we must fight... the Establishment elites of our time who are working to take away our freedom to choose our own leaders. They're the problem of this time...

"Corrupt Elites' who are using the same tactics of every other thug group in history...

I don't want mobs taking down statues. I don't want the mob to run anything. I don't want people who work to gin up the mob running the country. I don't want 'elites' or members of the press who think it's OK to lie if it's 'for the cause'... Too many red flags on the left...

“The most visible Mass Hysteria of the moment involves the idea that the United States intentionally elected a racist President. If that statement just triggered you, it might mean you are in the Mass Hysteria bubble.”

Ha! He’s trolling them.:)

The box above asks us to “keep FR free of ads”, but honestly there are far too many hyperlinks posted repeatedly here that defy that rule. FR has made a few blogs big time money and few people seem to realize it. I am not being snotty with you about it, just asking that you think about it before you link. There was NOTHING original in your link from American Thinker. The “article” was nothing more than a drive-by posting here on FR about the original.

Adams is always interesting and worth reading. Just go straight to his blog and read what he wrote. The discussion comments are often interesting as well. It is not your fault, but there are far too many “articles” here on FR that are nothing more than poorly written rehash pieces of the original with exciting headlines chock full of crap and spam.

American Thinker is off my read list now. My Adblock and spam program goes nuts every time I open it.

It’s unbelievable how lunatic left their page is when I go to do e-mail. I litrally (an office ref) have to block out their TDS. It’s INSANE.

There is an interesting book on the subject titled: “Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds” by Charles Mackay, LL. D.

It was written in 1841 but it is as pertinent today as it was then. The book discusses such delusions as the Tulip Bulb Crisis and the introduction of stock bubbles and paper currency. (I think we are in a currency bubble that is just expanding more slowly than the one described in pre-revolutionary France.)

Not everyone feels that way, volunbeer. I don’t have any problem with it, and they post articles there from a wide range of conservative views.

It is NOT a blog. I think you need to check your Adblock and spam program settinga, because you are missing out.

And I think the person who posted it wanted the perspective of the author...I do as well.

Craigslist hiring agitators....hmmmmm....sounds like a recipe for getting punched in the face in a parking lot.
Wonder if they do all their business online or actually have a face to face with the scum they hire?

Is Varney Bi-polar maybe? Gingrich is just competing with Bill O’Reilly seeing who can win writing a book a week.
