Civil War re-enactment in Manassas canceled amid worries over violence
Richmond Times-Dispatch ^ | Aug 18, 2017 | ANTONIO OLIVO

An annual Civil War re-enactment in Virginia was canceled Friday after participants shared worries over their safety following the recent violence in Charlottesville.

The two-day event in Manassas, scheduled to start Aug. 25, was meant to share how both Union and Confederate soldiers lived during the Civil War.

The event, which the city began hosting in 2011 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the beginning of the Civil War, has previously featured tent cities set up in the downtown area, an evening ball, and lectures about how the war started and why.

Patty Prince, a Manassas city spokeswoman, said some of the re-enactors called event organizers with worries that the racially charged atmosphere across the country over whether to tear down Civil War monuments would lead to violence.

“It’s just not a good time to have it,” Prince said about the event. “It’s a very sad time in our country.”

‘Never could understand re-enactments’

good re-enactors, who pay attention to detail, both in accoutrements and in overall physical appearance, can bring the era to life like nothing else can...bad re-enactors, who are many, with their beer bellies and gray hair, make a mockery of it...that’s why I quit doing it, when I became an obvious anachronism...

Not yet, they haven’t.

Not until they succeed in their biggest goal of getting the 2016 election declared invalid, and Madame President is installed in the Whitehouse.

The re-enactment should proceed. And the participants should make sure there’s not just powder in the muskets. ...and all bayonets are fixed. No point in wasting time to reload.

Well, remember, they are reenactors not real soldiers.
As ingrained as the military is in me, I always considered re-enacters as wanna-nees.
Just my 2 cents.

And the participants should make sure there’s not just powder in the muskets.’ yeah, sure; so both re-enactors and spectators are subjected to danger...brilliant...

Can the re-enactors carry Glock 19's in their ammo pouches for self defense from Antifa thugs?

If not, why not?

Fix bayonets, reenactors. Put the skeer in 'em with some cold steel.

It's what Stonewall would have done.

LOAD the rifles.

AIM them in a non-traditional DIRECTION.

PROCEED AGAINST THE ENEMY (You know—the 2017 enemy.)

If you had read my posts instead of snarking unnecessarily, you would have seen that some reenactors do try to pull the wool over the eyes of people around them. Major, indeed.

They have been wanted to “develop” that battle field for so long. Well I can see it coming now.

Never could understand re-enactments Like the war was some game It was tragic on both sides

When I lived in Florida, we took our Cub Scouts to the reenactment in Olustee. A great way to teach about History.

It was a great time. We'd go every year, except in bad weather.

The battle is OK the first time, but there is much more. The reenactors take on the 'persona' of a civil war era soldier. They generally have uniforms from both the North and South. They set up battle field camps, exactly as they would have in the 1850s. Very friendly, and love to share history. Lots to buy. They had a working blacksmith. There was a group of black S Carolina police officers who would play the Mass 54th. They invited us to dinner at the camp. Made a great stew over an open fire, and baked bread in a cast iron pot.

The South won the Battle of Olustee, so it was very well attended!

"The left has won"

The South lost. But some people can't accept that and they want to keep fighting the civil war

Over half of my reenacting group are military veterans as I am. Of the other half most are paramedics, police and fire department employees.

Talking to others in other units, many tried to join the military but were rejected based on physical disabilities.

There are many wannabee’s in the hobby but don’t paint with too broad a brush.

The re-enactment should proceed. And the participants should just attack ANTIFA instead! -——there fixed it!

Our family went to the centennial reenactment in 1961. Quite an event and it made a real impression on me. These reenactments bring out a little of the scope and reality of the war for the watchers.

The terrorists won when the government stripped us of most of our rights in the fake fight against terrorism.
The left is now winning its battle to rewrite and erase history.

I am sad and angry to a degree that I cannot properly express.

The only people wanting to keep fighting is the filthy left in general.
