In Afghanistan: Enough (K WIlliamson finds another way to hate)
National Review ^ | 8/23/2017 | Kevin Williamson

Posted on 08/23/2017 4:21:32 PM PDT by Titus-Maximus

What is it we are doing in Afghanistan? What do we think we are doing in Afghanistan? All we can say with any confidence is that the former and the latter bear only a theoretical relationship. The United States invaded Afghanistan in 2001 in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks of September 11. Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden and many of his associates were thought to be holed up there under the protection and the patronage of the Taliban, the jihadist militia cum narcotics syndicate that controlled Afghanistan at the time. U.S. forces marched in, toppled the Taliban, and installed a client regime under Hamid Karzai, a wildly corrupt and borderline incompetent leader who was, all things considered, probably the best we could do at the time. We eventually had a falling out with Karzai and his government, and Afghan democracy — “democracy” — moved on. The country has remained in a slow-motion civil war, with the Taliban waxing and waning conversely with U.S. interest in this unhappy little corner of the world. The NATO occupation and other foreign spending accounts for the lion’s share of Afghanistan’s formal economy; the lion’s share of the real economy is producing opium for the heroin trade, a field in which Afghanistan enjoys a 90 percent share of the world market. We spent millions of dollars importing Italian goats into Afghanistan, hoping to create a thriving cashmere-production industry. The goats went missing and were “presumed eaten,” according to Newsweek. Worse things have happened to goats. This week, President Trump gave a speech on Afghanistan, in which he said that his initial instinct was to pull out but that his military advisers had persuaded him to step up the U.S.

Another case of Kevin Williamson's Trump Derangement Tourettes Disease! Everything is bad, always bad, and it will get worse.....

NR ought to move its offices, and not tell him.

I usually like Williamson. He does ask two very good questions:

What is it we are doing in Afghanistan? What do we think we are doing in Afghanistan?

We've been there sixteen years. What is the end game?

Actually, Mexico has recently become the major Heroin source.

So the writer has some facts wrong. How many more I wonder.

I partially agree - indeed, we can not change the culture or violence of Afghanistan, especially with our own phony, multi-culti, politically-correct delusions playing in the background.

But leave Af-Pak, and what does one do when it again becomes a base for some Sunni terror group, attracting Muslim youth from across North America and Europe?

Will we do the next most reasonable thing - ban any Muslim visitor from South Asia? Ban travel?

I highly doubt it.

Maybe for heroin refining. But you can't make heroin without opium, and Mexico doesn't produce any opium poppies. So the ultimate source is still Afghanistan.

What is it we are doing in Afghanistan? What do we think we are doing in Afghanistan?

I’ll take a crack at it:

1. we are Expanding the Opium Production and Profits and an incredible rate, I saw it on the News last night.

2. We are being led to believe it is about killing terrorists.

The war on drugs cannot exist without drugs, the Heroin epidemic in this country exploded soon after invading Afghanistan and has increased dramatically every year since.

The link between drugs and crime, including violent crime, would be hard to overstate in Chicago. Eighty-six percent of adult males arrested in Chicago last year tested positive for drug use. Chicago, with a population of 2.7 million, had 506 murders in 2012, the highest per capita among the four most populous U.S. cities.

" goats are exactly the wrong critter to introduce into a place like that!!!"

After the author mentions that the muslim subhumans ate the goats, he notes "worse things have happened to goats".

We did see the drone footage of "date night" in Afghanistan.

You’re wrong. There is a sweet spot for growing opium in Mexico for growing the opium producing poppy and the drug cartels in Mexico have moved into it.

Mexico doesn't produce any opium poppies.

Incorrect.

Mexico was producing opium poppies back in the 70's.

I doubt the weather has changed that much.

Actually, you aren’t correct. About 96% of the worlds non-pharmaceutical opium crop comes from Afghanistan. Mexico isn’t even close.

4 India 12,250 hectares

The deep state needs us to remain in an endless campaign in Afghanistan to keep the opium money flowing to them and to fund the CIA black ops programs.

Step 1 of getting us out of there is to annihilate the opium crops.

Really?

Maybe for transport and distribution.

But growing it?

Where are the thousands of acres of poppy fields, and why don’t we ask Mexico to destroy them?

It’s never going to stop. Every paycheck set aside 50 bucks to fight Islamic terrorism, for the rest of your life, as every other American will do. It is like insurance, or a 401 K plan to preserve a peaceful future or just plain taxes. I hate it, but it was the same in the Cold War.

Do I want to fight wars forever?

Why do we have 1000 FBI cases that are chasing Islamic terrorists in all 50 states? When is that over? What is that cost? What is the endgame? Orlando? Nice France? Barcelona? 9/11?

You can stay home and wait for them to come...and they will come because they said they are going to come. If 99% of Islam is peaceful, it is irrelevant, since the 1% has shown themselves to be more than capable of committing acts of horrendous violence. Yet we see that large portions of the Muslim world believe in Sharia, and in the punishment of death for leaving their faith or insulting the Prophet. We are running a footrace while holding a bottle of nitroglycerin.

When they struck the WTC in 1993, they said they would come back and knock it down, and you know what - they did exactly that. In 1998 Osama Bin Laden issued the fatwa that every Muslim on Earth has an Islamic duty to kill Americans, yet we did nothing. Clinton let him escape.

Osama Bin Laden has also said that Muslims have a religious duty to use nuclear weapons against America. Every expert has said it is not a question of “If”, it is a question of “when”. They will get nukes, there are too many out there, and 100 pounds of plutonium will level Manhattan, and send the world into a decades long depression. The Russians in 1989 abandoned stockpiles of highly enriched uranium and plutonium, and what separated those bomb grade materials from people walking up and taking it was a chain linked fence with a lock. They do not know if some of these amounts were stolen, they were not tracked. Their suitcase nukes were placed in countries they believed they would be at war. They could be in the US already. None of this is difficult, especially with suicidal terrorists. We need to be close to the toxic pool where these monsters live, and we have to shoot them from the shore. We need to know what they are doing. Keep your friends close, but your enemies closer. I don’t want any of this, but waiting for them to come is a fool’s errand. (Just keep killing, and stop wasting blood and treasure on “nation building.”)

Killing terrorists is the goal and the more that are killed the safer the world will be. I just hope they get great at it. I’ll finish with General Curtis Lemay on war:

“I’ll tell you what war is about, you’ve got to kill people, and when you’ve killed enough, they stop fighting.”
