“Probably with potatoes.”
—
In Iowa?
.
As state militia units, the units in the Iowa Air National Guard are not in the normal United States Air Force chain of command. They are under the jurisdiction of the Governor of Iowa through the office of the Iowa Adjutant General unless they are federalized by order of the President of the United States. The Iowa Air National Guard is headquartered at Camp Dodge, Johnston, and its commander is currently Brigadier General Drew DeHaes.
Our F16s are armed with potato guns.
I think Davenport has a club Med.
Experienced female backpacker here, with both wilderness survival and snow survival courses as background. Sometimes hard to tell when going “due east” or due any direction. Most lost people who don’t have a compass walk in a circle even if they try to walk in a straight direction because the human body will tend to favor one side over another. One wilderness rescuer told us that he always finds his lost victim if he searches in circles emanating from the point of origin. All of his rescues were guys, so what kind of guy thing are you referencing? ;)
I have it on good authority from a fellow FReeper that they grow lots of potatoes in Iowa.
This time of year, I’ll bet the potatoes are ripening nicely on the potato trees.
:-)

Orienteering is a great sport and a great survival skill.
Guys out there: want to take your date on an interesting adventure? Take her orienteering! There is probably a group in your area.
Yep. If you ask anyone east of the Mississppi River about Iowa they will tell you “that’s where they grow potatoes”.
I am impressed with Iowa’s firepower.
I’m sure that those Minnesota Badgers won’t be trying anything funny with you guys!
Like your handle.
The first season of Survivor my wife was a little ticked one day when she came home from work. There were little burn spots all over the yard. I had taken the girls, twins around 8, out in the back yard and taught them how to make fire with flint and steel.
When D2 was up in App State the “boys and girls” liked her along on camping trips as she was the only one who could get a fire going fast - whatever the weather. She knew about lighter knots and always had a few slivers on her.
Why would a couch have its own club?
My wife does not share share my enthusiasm for the outdoors. To her roughing it is a Motel 6.
Your son could probably decipher my “about page”.

“Iowa Air National Guard are not in the normal United States”
You can say that, again.
I’ve seen those Iowa pilots.
They’re crazy.
Sometimes, they fly so low that they suck up a potato into their jet engine.
Peels em, slices em and cooks em in about a second.
A tasty treat at the Iowa State Fair.
Hi-temp veg-o-matic.
You DO know a lot about Iowa don’t ya!
Thanks for the links - but the Star at Hoffman is about the top of the hill for navigation.
Made it through that with time to spare.
I fondly remember climbing potato trees as a boy.
” Im always amazed at people lost on mountains overnight in populated areas.”
Here’s one for you. 18 year old got lost in the forest just outside the smokies for 11 days.

He and his father were hunting ‘sang and got separated.
Granted it’s the wild TN side between Joyce Kilmer and the Park but still the old follow-streams-downhill rule wasn’t followed.
I took your advice.
I called my cousin Steve.
He lives in Mesachew.....Missachu.....east of the Iowa River.
I asked him what he knew about Iowa.
He says, “They’re famous for their potatoes.....and Big Ben.”
Who knew they grow Big Ben’s rice in Iowa?
I sure didn’t know that.
They sure grow a lot of different things in Iowa.
If Toadsuck, Arkansas wasn’t already my adopted home town, I think I would have Iowa as my adopted home town.
