Hawkeye.
And the great state of Mississippi is named after the river, not the other way around.

Trapper John. I saw that movie. I can name a lot of the characters from that movie.
There was....ummmmm.....and......ummmmmm......Sonar! Sonar O’Reilly.
And......ummmmm....Fonzie.....yeah.....Fonzie.
So the people in Mississippi got to name the whole river?
That seems kind of presumptuous by them.
What’s next?
They’ll name Canada North Mississippi?
The Canadianians won’t like that.
They’re secretly hoping to be renamed “Las Vegas”.

We live about two hours from the eastern Iowa border. It’s absolutely beautiful all along the Mississippi, but then nothing but corn and hogs until you hit Des Moines, then more corn and hogs until you hit the other side that borders on the Missouri River. Also very pretty! ;)

Wisconsin is a beautiful state. The endless corn and bean fields in Iowa get monotonous, Cattle and hogs are raised in Iowa, too, and there are some very lovely unique and scenic spots. It's very beautiful with the rolling hills by Dubuque where you can cross a bridge into your state, too. I have driven the Great River Road all the way to Minneapolis, which is breathtaking. It takes an hour or two longer than the usual route, I80 to near Des Moines then I35 north to Minneapolis, but it's worth it. There are even some white birch trees growing in the far north of Iowa along the river road.
And you can drive up on the Illinois side on the "other" river road.

Thanks! I’ll channel my Mom for a minute here, “We just live in the most BEAUTIFUL State, don’t we, Girls?”
Mom was big on Road Trips when we were younger. Thanks to her, I’ve seen 90% of America.
America IS beautiful from coast to coast and from north to south. Thanks, Mom! :)

Drones could come in real handy during shipwrecks.

Did u know that nail polish can make Matches water proof, and crayons make great fire starters.

Read through your posts. Haven’t laughed so hard since Jeb stood on his tippy toes after that debate.

Back in 1964 now that you mentioned that year the only thing I had ever heard about Iowa was this episode of this show.

Good.
I mean that you laughed, not that Jeb stood on his tippy toes.

I heard about the nail polish (or wax/parrafin) but wouldn't have thought of it. I made a mental note to research when I have time how to start a fire with flint. I do keep some safety matches and a candle handy because we have had more power outages in recent years. Old matchbooks lose their ability to strike or something. Safety matches will catch on a rough surface (or the box but I keep that put up because of grandkids, shouldn't really have just a few handy for that reason).
So you have my curiosity aroused by crayons and I'll have to look into that.
I did learn how to start a fire with kindling twigs and newspaper, for both charcoal and wood in the fireplace and outdoors. It would hurt my pride to use charcoal starter and I hate the smell of it even if it burns off.
But I don't know how to deal with wet wood. Alamazan Kitchen uses "wolf" fur and went and shaved some fur off their wooly dog. It worked for them. But if you are lost, you aren't likely to find any wolf or dog fur that you'd want to harvest anyway.
