This chimera that somehow our pulling our troops out will enable these tribes to launch an attack on us is laughable. It’s the Saudis who fund it. Not these primitives living in caves.
The true purpose is eternal war for the benefit of banks, contractors and politicians. Not so much benefit for the soldiers and their families and the taxpayers.

Bomb them from the air. Disrupt them, continuously. But while we could have - maybe - defeated the Taliban/Al Qaeda soon after 9/11, Bush let that opportunity slip away. Nation-building became more important than victory.
So victory is not possible now. And a stalemate would only be temporary. Time is on the side of the Taliban. So get out, and bomb them from the air.

The problem with that is there is no way to tell Taliban from non-Taliban ... unless you are a local ... and even then it could be just someone’s word against another ... and you’d have to be on the ground adjudicating that one by one. Not feasible.
