R.I.P. Walter Becker of Steely Dan 1950-2017
Steely Dan legend Walter Becker has died at the age of 67, his official website ha announced.
Becker recently missed shows with Steely Dan for the Classic East and West concerts in the USA. No details of his death have been revealed at this point.
Walter Becker founded Steely Dan with Donald Fagen in 1972. Steely Dan were an instant hit with their first album Cant Buy A Thrill in 1972. The album featured two of the bands now signature tunes Do It Again and Reeling In The Years as well as Dirty Work.
RIP. Great music. And all studio music; at the time they didn’t even tour I believe.

Eventually everyone’s years are reeled in, but this was way too soon. RIP Mr. Becker and thanks for all the great music.
Another part of the youth of many of us slips away.
Damn. Saw them for the 1st time in April at The Venetian in Vegas. Becker could still play. Definitely in my top 5 all time bands.
Now this is music! RIP
So sad to read this!
Listened to them to death in the late 70s and they are a band whose music still sounds fresh, as it did in their hey day.
Do It Again, Reeling In The Years and Dirty Work are all vastly overplayed on the classic rock station I listen to, especially ‘Reeling in the Years’.
Wish they played ‘Peg’ or ‘Josie’ more...
But then this station, after swearing they’d never play ‘Hotel California’ again still continues to play it at least once a day - they say they get many requests for it but I have trouble believing that. Most. Overplayed. Song. Ever.
Damn.
RIP Mr. Becker. You will be missed.

“Peg” puts me in the hallway of Kolb Intermediate outside the gym.
I love that song.
Thanks and RIP Mr. Becker.

Well, this sucks. It was inevitable of course, but sucks. Steely Dan is one of my favorites artists. I’m sure Fagan will be affected by this, as will the touring troupe.
Wow. Another REAL musician leaves us for good. Their numbers are getting slim.
RIP, Walter.
saw Steely Dan around 1993- they were great but when walter becker did a few solo songs everyone ran to the bathroom...his cohort, donald fagan- is a rabid anti-Trumper..
“Royal Scam” is a classic.

Walter is on to New Frontiers.
