Copenhagen (AFP) - A Danish submarine inventor being held over the grisly death of Swedish journalist Kim Wall is to appear in a Copenhagen court on Tuesday, where the suspicions against him could be ramped up to murder.
Peter Madsen is expected to appear in person at the court hearing due to begin at 2:00 pm (1200 GMT), the Danish public prosecutor's office told AFP.
The 46-year-old inventor has been been in custody since August 12 suspected of "negligent manslaughter" in a gruesome case that has puzzled investigators and shocked the public.
Danish prosecutors now plan to ask the Copenhagen district court to extend Madsen's detention, alleging that he murdered 30-year-old Wall and desecrated her body.
Wall's headless torso was found floating off Copenhagen on August 21, 10 days after she went missing while interviewing Madsen aboard his homemade submarine for a feature story she was researching about him.
Madsen has insisted that Wall died in an accident on board his 60-foot (18-metre) Nautilus submarine and that he later dumped her body at sea in Koge Bay near Copenhagen.
He denies cutting off her head and limbs, Danish police said.
But investigators say Wall's torso had been weighed down by a metal object, and her blood was found inside the submarine.

He should just convert to Islam, claim he had a “sexual emergency” on the sub, and at most he’ll serve 30 days. Most migrants in Sweden get off with a warning for such actions.
Just tell the court you are a muzzie refuge and it’s part of your culture, and you’ll be cleared, given a home, and sizable pension, and allowed to bring all your extended over with the same bennies.
He just needs a Sharia court.
Too bad it’s not Germany. Merkel would be calling for tolerance and understanding.
I prefer my Danish as a dessert, not a submarine sandwich.
As one comment said, never accept a submarine ride from a stranger.
I would make a wager that she was not the first person that he ever killed. They might want to reopen some missing persons reports and see if he had any connectivity.

Police investigating the death of a Swedish journalist have charged the submarine inventor accused of killing her with abuse of a corpse.
Peter Madsen denied the new charge after it was filed by Danish authorities at a court in Copenhagen, where Kim Wall’s headless torso was found in the Baltic Sea this week.
Detectives said her body, which was formally identified on Wednesday, was missing legs and arms and had been weighed down with metal.
An attempt had been made to remove gas and air from the naked torso to keep it on the seabed, police added.
Mr Madsen, 46, initially claimed to have dropped Ms Wall off alive in the Danish capital following a trip on his homemade submarine on 10 August, but has since told police he dumped her body in the sea after she died in an accident.
On Friday police halted the search for the 30-year-old’s remaining body parts in the waters between Denmark and Sweden, although divers were still searching the harbour to which Mr Madsen was brought after being rescued from his sinking submarine.
Officers declined to comment on why the search had been suspended, but said they were ready to resume it when necessary.

Possibly tried to bury or, in this case, submerge the evidence.
That’s why I was thinking too. Makes me wonder how they found her blood if it was submerged. Unless there were still dry compartments.
