Republicans have not convinced many everyday Americans of the rightness of our cause. So we need to do something different to get our message directly to the American people and explain how the policies we advocate will benefit them.
To succeed, its time for Republicans to take the initiative and go on the offensive. We need to seize opportunities, streamline the legislative process, become less risk-adverse and not rely on the media to fairly deliver our message.
Republicans also need to define issues, employ better arguments and make the Democrats pay a price for their unpopular positions. And we need to be as disciplined in governing as Democrats are in opposing.
Democrats attack. Republicans explain. Instead, Republicans should show the positive impact of our plans on the lives of individuals. And we should use charts, graphics, photos, social media and all the other tools of modern communication.
Republicans are too defensive. Democrats are like predators that instinctively pursue their prey as soon as they see their backsides. Republicans should confront our opponents, not head for the tall grass.
Republicans shy away from sensitive issues, such as immigration, even when our solutions are popular. For example, few issues garner 70 to 80 percent of the publics support. But a program called E-verify does. It protects jobs for American workers rather than letting illegal immigrants take them.

"Our cause" is to further the interests of the entities that enhance our wealth.
They should have been doing this already! We’ve been begging for years!
I just called Smith’s DC office (Phone: 202-225-4236) and told him of my support for this op-ed. I urged him to get that weasel Paul Ryan on board the Trump Train & get behind #MAGA.
I live in CA, but I called anyway. I would urge others to call & voice their opinion.
We’ve been trying to get the party to do that for years. They ain’t listening and have discovered that it’s far easier to capitulate than fight and join their “friends” on the other side of the nonexistent aisle for drinks at the Monacle or Capitol Hill Club and talk about how stupid we are for believing their campaign “promises”.
If I remember right, Lamar Smith is just another RHINO who talks a good game but lacks the action to accomplish it. I.E., he is just like the rest of Congress Repubs who promise and promise, but those promises mean nothing as they think they really work for the Chamber and K Street and those promises are to fool the rubes into reelecting them..
Yeah Lamar put up or shut up, enough talk, how about some action. Betting it’s just all talk as usual. Why so cynical on my part Lamar, well that little thing called repealing obamacare, tax cuts, border security, things like that. You know you campaigned on them for 25 yrs. and now could actually enact them. Waiting on you Lamar, not holding my breath with you lying dog turds though.
Lamar Smith is my rep. My only wish is that he would put action behind his words. He is a good guy, just quiet as I’ve noticed! At one time he would have headed the House Judiciary Committee as the next in line. But under Boehner, he was demoted to the head of the Science, Space, and Technology Committee. Demotion because House Judiciary committee has much more influence than the Science, Space, and Technology Committee.
I did vote against Lamar Smith in a primary runoff, but his opponent didn’t stand a chance. I like Smith, but he isn’t tough enough IMO. He is my Rep, so I get to vote every 2 years.
Just remember Lamar Smith’s district runs between San Antonio and Austin, both are heavily Democrat, but he remains a Republican because of all the voters between these two cities. It was pointed out to me by my brother that the cities all are controlled by Democrats. That holds true for TX too. Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Austin, etc are all controlled by the LEFT.
Who would you rather have leading the House? Ryan or Smith? Smith is relatively unknown, but is member of some of the most important committees.
