Big ol’ jet airliner moves at about 35X the speed of Irma. Not much of race. the Delta pilots are not ballsy and that’s to their credit.

Most Delta pilots are ex-military, and I’ve seen some good flying (and beautiful landings!) from them.

Delta hires a lot of Navy pilots. They will fly in the worst conditions without breaking a sweat because they are used to landing on a pitching deck in any weather day or night where there is no other place to set down. Of course there are automated systems for landing now as long as cross winds and other factors are within limits, and when not purely pilot skill and nerve. Navy pilots are also used to flying precise times and courses at marshall to and from the carrier so they are good at that as well.
I phoned my son near San Juan. He was prepared and unworried living near San Juan. Said the eye would pass about 50 miles off shore. He also sent me the link for the weather service below which he says provides excellent visuals for weather at and near Puerto Rico.
They love to virtue signal as much as the most ardent Obammunist. Took some of them a decade to stop marching for amnesty and posting SPLC talking points.
My pocho amigos y amigas love their conspiracy theories. Dunno if they would fly into a hurricane or not, but they do plenty that mystifies me.
