Inept? How about corrupt? I’d never give money to Red Cross.
My response to the title: Duh.
I’ve known this for decades. It’s been a VERY long time since I’ve given those posers a dime.
Exactly correct. Give to Salvation Army or Samaritans Purse
Especially for large cities south of the North Pole ...
During Katrina I would say the churches did the most good.
Food, water, clothe and social support.
Was honestly a beautiful thing to behold.
The red cross is all about salaries and administrative expenses. Try to give them anything need but money. Try to give them much needed shoes and clothing. “Here is some water”— naw!! give me your credit card.
I’m not defending the RC, especially since I no longer give them money, but I don’t see any specifics in the article other than a couple of things that might have a reasonable explanation.
FWIW, I’d check to see if Houston politicos are trying to extort the RC, or co-opt it in some way.
Trust, but verify.
Red Cross needs new office furniture?
Good on the councilman. It is about time someone spoke up.
Have you seen the Internet photos of the skimpy meals being given by the Red Cross to those in Houston shelters? Surely they could do better than that with so many grocery chains donating tens of thousands of dollars worth of food to them. Sad that the former presidents’ fund is being given exclusively to the Red Cross, instead of dividing it to go to different charities, as the Trumps have wisely done with their million dollar gift.
Red Cross has been taking a beating from a number of different directions in recent years.
So tell me, on balance, are the organizations like Red Cross the Good Guys, or not?
I speak in terms of whether their response is timely, the number of resources they devote is commensurate with the crisis at hand, and that their comparative costs in relation to benefits actually distributed are legitimate.
Altruism is perhaps from the very best of motives, but if called upon, should be able to deliver a high ratio of positive results per dollar spent. Not to be Ebenezer Scrooge or anything, but money spent poorly is money tossed to the winds.
Isn’t this the same guy who refused to evacuate Huston in spite of Core of Eng. recommendation? Who is he to call anyone incompetent!
More complaints. One, they put warm burgers in a cooler after a pilot had flown them in. Crazy.
Mr. b has spoken badly against them since they charged for every service during Alicia.
Glad to see people are starting to wake up to the Red Cross.
So nothing has changed since Liddy Dole ran it.
Salvation Army or Convoy of Hope, they're legit.
duck and cover
My grandfather was a WW 1 vet, my dad WW2 and they told me NEVER give money to the Red Cross. I havent.
I’ve believed for years they are inept and corrupt, bested on evidence from Katrina, etc. Nice to get more confirmation.
